If either of my sons grows up to look like the titty-boy in the green shirt ^ I might disown them.

Then again when I was 18 I had hair down to ******, giant sideburns & goatee, an earring, and wore torn tie die t's & flannel shirts. I bet my old man wanted to beat me senseless.

Not insecure, per se, but I'm always jealous of his arms.

I don't see what is the big deal. A guy like the Rock looks fantastic with douchebag type of looks, muscle shirt, shades, tanned, etc. Style only looks weird and odd if a guy tries to pull off something that does not suit him. I cannot possibly imagine Rock wears skinny dry denim and look good in it.

Where do you go to school? Just curious because i swear i saw that guy before... Its called standard issue bro wear. bro usually means douche bag, at least where I went to school. Bro, frat guy and douche bag were all synonymous.I actually enjoy watching these guys in action, its like an anthropologic study of primitive man. If you ever find a cool chick to hang out on campus with, observing them from a safe distance is really entertaining.

My sentiment the first time I saw that pic (on this site, I think): his guns are huge.

1. Not all dry denim are skinny/tight or even slim. Tons of repro or modern, yet more relaxed cut available; there is something for everyone.

2. Not everyone has The Rock's combination of built/look/manner. Or be a WWE champion/movie star either.

Agreed. It's not my style, but hating on what people wear is passe. Live and let live, if the guy feels like a million bucks in it, the clothes are doing the job they should. Even if it does look like bro wear (like a can and a half of axe!).

Music, clothes, wine, etc... It's always the same story. **** that's exclusive or underground, and takes effort, knowledge (and often "taste"), to obtain gives one a certain sense of superiority over the average joe. That's fine. Everything's cool until they're crowding you out at your favorite little band's show, or screwing that doll you've been coveting (but didn't have the nads to contact). Other people's **** shouldn't matter to you unless they're ******* with you or yours directly. Don't worry about it.

I am not talking about just dry denim, I am talking about style in general. Some guys look good in certain style. Having said that some guys pictured as 'douchbag' look alright to me. Some SF members are too caught up being 'unique' and getting rare unknown articles and dislike mainstream stuff. That's cool, but if the mainstream stuff looks good on a person, I don't see any issue.

Even all of those combined into a college student sitting in front of you in class don't make someone a douchebag. It is obviously within your right to prejudge someone based on your standards (which apparently were derived from this forum), but please give him and others more of a chance. There are plenty of people out there who match your description who are not douchebags.

Perhaps your right....well said, let's just give them a chance and label them "Self cock sucking tanned wankers" instead.

I totally understand this, hence the "if he's happy, more power to him" comment in the OP. And in that sense, he is no different than many/most of us; he's simply trying to find a comfortable place within the social structure.

That said, to *my* eye the things the guy does to be accepted/elevated within his social group looks pretty ridiculous. Fashion is subjective, and this is plainly illustrated by the fact that what he thinks looks cool (i.e., the getup he wore to class today), I think looks, well, douchy. And it's quite possible that he would have the same dislike of some of the things I wear. But I must admit that, for me, my distaste of "douchebag culture" goes beyond simple aesthetics; it's the flaunting of wealth, and the rabid consumerism that really gets me.

...I'll try to keep this rant short...

Look, I understand that nobody is unique, none of us are original; out there, somewhere, is another person that looks each one of us, talks like us, thinks like us. This is fine, and I accept it. However, to willingly, nay, EAGERLY transform one's self into a yet another clone of the archetype which we told by a marketing machine is "cool"...I think such behavior is pathetic. I feel that people who make no attempt to dress themselves (instead, relying on catalogs to tell them what to wear), people who *change themselves* to fit into the molds produced by "lifestyle brands" such as A&F in the hopes of being envied/accepted by their peers, people who openly embrace trends which are fickle by design (all the better to part the consumer and his money)...these people represent the ugliest kind of western consumerism.

Above and beyond this however, is my distaste for the flashy, attention-drawing labels and branding that says to all "Look at me, look at how much expendable income I have!" I have no hate for people with money; I come from an upper-middle-class family that, when I was growing up, had a certain measure of financial freedom. Likewise, many of my friends are considered "wealthy;" two have bank accounts well into the eight-figure range. But NONE of the people I associate with make an effort to demonstrate to the state of their finances. And this, above all else, is the douchebag/victim attribute I hate.

Ok, I've ranted enough, and I'm starting to repeat myself. Sorry.

Bottom line: I hate lemmings, I hate people who flaunt their wealth (be it ordinary or extraordinary). And in my perception, douchebags are/do both.

I agree with you, and perhaps I should have been a little more detailed in my initial description of the guy in question. My passing of the "douchebag" judgment goes beyond the manner in which he chooses to clothe himself; that is simply an indicator of the douchiness within. The real measure of his quality is in his actions. For example, the class we share is quite full, and on the first couple days, some of the late-comers found themselves without chairs. Despite sitting front row center, the guy made a big scene about giving up his chair to a hot chick who came in and was going to have to sit on a table in the back. I'm not faulting his chivalry; I myself would (and do) do the same thing, were I able to do so without being disruptive. However, the problem was he made a big display of his actions, interrupting class and drawing attention to his chivalrous act. He did this two days in a row, actually. The most telling of his (in)actions came on the third day of class. When a somewhat overweight and rather unattractive girl came in late and found herself without a chair, he remained silent. In fact, when the instructor told the girl "I'm sorry, I have no idea why they haven't given us more chairs yet, you'll have to just sit on the counter in the back" the entire class turned to look at Mr. Douche, expecting him to make another scene....yet he did nothing, and sat quietly, pretending he didn't know what was going on around him. Nobody said a word, yet each person in the class knew *exactly* what every other person was thinking; "What a douchebag!" Perhaps now you have a better idea of why I've dismissed the guy.
