I have a jean...(The Ultimate Jean Thread For Beginners) - ask questions here. - Page 61

I have a pair of Oni Blues which I bought at BiG and got hemmed/chainstitched there. After a pretty non-aggressive soaking (40 minutes in lukewarm water) they shrank perfectly everywhere except the inseam, where they're a little shorter than I'd prefer. They're still certainly wearable, but I'm wondering if I can expect a little stretching from an inseam standpoint? If not, any other recourses anyone can offer?

I've heard (and have not tried) to wet them a bit, and then stand on one end and gently pull on the leg a few times. I don't think your inseam will stretch out that much naturally, because there is no pressure pulling it in that direction.

Looking to buy some reasonably affordable raw denim

Thinking nudies since they are available to atleast try on in Perth, not sure about other brands?

Whats the deal with sizing down? and any other reasonably accessible brand suggestions?

Sizing down might or might not be necessary depended on what pair of jeans you decide to go with to account for stretching. It'll be hard for anyone to really suggest anything until you say how much you're willing to spend, what sort of silhouette you want, etc.

Agreed. APC is also popular here on SF, specifically the New Standards. They're considered the introductory (and maybe ultimate) denim by a lot of members, and are available at a ton of our affiliates.

Of course, that's the beaten path.

The knee and hem measurement on the AJ are the same, thus don't taper from the knee down. Context has the measurements if you want to double check: http://www.contextclothing.com/brand...ge_joe_dry.php Edit: sigmatic, you beat me to it.

I've got a repair question for you guys:

I have been wearing my APC new standards for 6 months (straight) and, due to a few ill-advised bike rides around the city while wearing them, I now have a nickel sized threadbare hole in the crotch. How shall I proceed in fixing them? Bring 'em to a tailor? If so, is there anything in particular I should tell the tailor to do?

I feel like I should probably have the whole crotch reinforced so I can continue to wear these without issue long into the future. I've got a killer fade going and love these jeans. It would be a shame to have to start from scratch!

Let me know what you guys think. Thank you!

mk i have a pair of sjjd that ive worn for about 4 months, the fading is nice, but i could do with a little more contrast and they feel a little too grody

hot soak and outdoor hang dry?

yes or no
^ yes

cold soak them if you don't want them to shrink
post #912 of 21424
thanks

anyone else have any input...?

the cold wash sounds pretty reasonable and i def. dont want the to shrink up at all they are the perfect size

are there any downturns to soaking?

i think you loose your creases that you have set in

Can you smell the stench? Are others suffering from the stench? If none of that applies, febreeze and wear them till they do.

+1 Febreeze works wonders. I've worn my SCs for about a year and a half (not everyday but often) and have never washed them. The soaking will fade the fades unless the fades are deep. With 4 months (continuous) of wear you probably have some decent fades that could withstand a soak. Then again, I've never soaked. Well there goes my credit (if I ever had any).
