I guess the price isn't really a concern. Mid rise would probably be best but a somewhat low rise is fine as long as it will stretch to be comfortable. Sanforized would be good - isn't that pretty much the standard for almost everything these days?

I just wore my grey wings+horns jeans today and the fit on those is pretty damn spot on for me. I can't get anything too tapered because my upper legs aren't that skinny, but the NSs don't look that great to me when they stack so I wanted something a little skinnier in the hem like the w+h.

It also takes me forever to get decent looking wear so something that fades easily would be a plus.

Yeah, Skulls might work for you. Or a tailor-tapered pair of PBJs.

But why is it that the FH-1001 size 28 fits just right
while the FH-3001 size 28 is a bit tight around the crotch? (but still can be zipped up)?

Also, the salesman at Take5 told me I should go with FH-3001 size 29 but, the ass doesn't look right to me because it looks kind of baggy.

What size should I go with on the FH-3001? 28? or perhaps the rise/cut isn't right for me?

I'd take a serious look at Skull 5507 then, or the Momotaro 0701. And def. look at Warehouse 660s too.
Skull and Momos are sanforized (some shrink) and fast faders. The Skull have more of a taper (my 30w have a 7.5 leg opening, but a straight thigh like the NS, also a comfy mid-rise). I found the NS to be too big in the leg opening and too high-rise for my liking. Momos are a snugger top block, and leg opening like NS.

Flat heads have a very generous/roomy top block for the cut. my BSP are the same way. No way around it. Flathead come from a vintage, repro-styling background, so a slouchier top block seems logical to me. You won't really resolve that by downsizing any more.

For slim jeans, I'm a fan of the Momotaro 0701 for a great top block fit on a very slim jean. Skulls are good for that. Warehouse 660s. PBJ 005s.

Problem: you're wearing those too high. APC, because of the way they fit new (and the downsizing required) want to ride high. I had the identical problem.

Solution: you need to start sagging these (pushing them down on your hips more). That rise isn't that low.

There are two ways to do it:

First you can just make an effort to push your waist down with your hands in your pockets, or you can soak the waist only and stretch them some other way. It'll take longer if you don't soak the waist, but they'll stretch anyhow, and will only stretch a certain amount. Might was well make yourself comfy now, right?

Try this:

Thanks so much for the help! I pulled them down basically as far as they'd go before I went to bed last night, not the most comfortable sleep I've had and I woke up with big ol' welts on my thigh, but they fit great now. Thanks, denim santa!
