I have a jean...(The Ultimate Jean Thread For Beginners) - ask questions here. - Page 1420

I have some acne ace jeans and was looking for opinions on length. I am just not sure about the bunching or stacking going on. I am thinking about going to a tailor but let me know what you think. I just threw the chucks on because they were  there but would usually wear with common projects. D8UR24Mf2kXvpgec5hVQKyMZP-1SGFRZuq1_QGKjssV8er64wqJdDywcnIV8VuVHINdSrzOEvYq26vu7y8iGkfNXu-LW4Sj8IGmpeUi6DWJP8OAjVI5jSw95yoTxF8cjcDi0kdpsB8489sxsWxWsjvPgCAoMmDuN_9KFNb0K_YhVh1Tj7adwim-UPZYyBIUr5oay8iQ5xWtyk0haODjQ3lz8vdZjfpMheLCgThPbhspgTssZbgV1xEYcaZcqGcknFu2uiMtVymJ2qlfVKJL_tEemj0V6H-HXIUdRPKJafvVFhkNhO8ZQ7CYjiMpKn9dSoiL7YardA2sVhPwXodDCvnbiuFz7FQMUoNq-VFD5jyH55tdepSD-FQu7hY5gFiEkUJE4DO9aK_adgA47CYb2hoYQDYp_okDUK1ljK-POxbQAPEgtNjWXLKNwqe-tGarqH3hqjH1SWM8uVh_uuqOam-M_9ZQ0ZbSK9xkZpaPXW5uCyhdTtJeCTIArMzqMe-9_vsc-bXt5uyTMdTy1Kpf25ox7pBa2brdPWIMQVYQW-8jEFk-IfJZDLWFD7z55aYnA=w732-h1298-no

I'm planning to grab a pair the same size in waist and 2" longer off Amazon because I have a 20% off coupon. I don't wear denim all that often, mainly because the few pairs I have don't fit well any more, but I have been thinking about getting a pair for a while.

I guess the other popular option for cheap starter raws would be Unbranded. Are they a big step up from the STF? How can I easily determine my fit and sizing in them based on Levi's pre-shrunk sizing? I have larger thighs and seem to remember the last time I tried on Levi's, the popular fits like 511 and 513 were too tight on me.

I went to a local mall and tried on jeans at both Macy's and JC Penney's. I knew that there would be a difference in the quality of jeans at the two stores, but I found a HUGE difference in sizing as well. I tried on a perfect pair of 513s in 33x30 at Macy's, but they had the wrong color. I walked over to JCP, found the right color, and couldn't even get them over my thighs.

I don't have any mainline Levi's stores near me, only an outlet. If I buy off Amazon, should I expect sizing in line with the Macy's jeans?

Also, if the pre-shrunk 501 fit was a bit unflattering (too loose in the lower leg), should I expect the shrink-to-fit to end up the same, or will sizing down one and soaking them in the tub give a more tapered look?

JC Penny and Macy's sell the exact same Levis, there's no difference in quality between stores.

The problem with Levi's sizing is that it largely depends on the country of origin.

Meaning you could have two pairs of Levi 514s, one made in Mexico and the other in Pakistan and have them fit completely different even though they're both 514s of the same size.

They aren't skinny though!

I'm more or less trying to decide between Cash and Stay Cash.

Ande Whall Mustang fit might be perfect; only downside is they're sold out of the standard indigo at the moment.. Eleven Wolves fit looks very promising as well - agree about the details on those. Thanks again for the recommendations!

I, too, was looking at the indigo mustang fit. I contacted Ande and he told me he was supposed to get more denim around X-mas. That clearly didn't happen so i'm hoping he'll get some soon. His jeans are calling my name.

As for Eleven Wolves, I checked his site the other day and it appears his jeans have a zip fly rather than a button fly. I prefer a button fly myself so just wanted to throw that out there in case you have a preference. You might wanna email him just to be sure. But, his stuff is all hand-made and the pocket lining details are what set his stuff apart. I think he also used to be a semi-pro skateboarder in his past life.

Hmm...looks like button to me: http://www.elevenwolves.com/index.php/product/jeans/ (can't link directly to the pics, but there's one of the inside of the fly). I also strongly prefer a button fly.

Found a good deal on some NWT RRL slim straights on eBay, so gave them a shot. Sanforized, but just gave them a hot soak to try to shorten them up a bit. I may end up giving Eleven Wolves a shot just because. Also considering the solid black Mustangs.

Might be coming in real late with this, but has anyone tried Matt & Bow Denim? I read some great things about them and would like to give them a try. I also love the free shipping and the fact that they let you order a 2nd pair at a different size if you are in between. I haven't read much through the posts so I am not sure if this company has already been addressed. Thanks

If I had to choose I'd probably go with Ande Whall, and that's mainly because I like his aesthetics. I kinda dig the wing arcuates and his special roll series is interesting.

The arcs are kind of a better version of what Imperial uses. Must be an Aussie thing. Can't decide if I like them or not.

edit - whoops, Ande's from New Zealand.

the wing arcuates take getting used to. I didn't like them at first but now I think they're cool. definitely unique and what makes his stuff stand out in the crowd.

Ok, so I ordered my first pair of decent jeans (been wearing GAP Selvedge). I got some Naked & Famous Weird Guys in Indigo Selvedge. I got the 34 waist, which fits nicely. I like the fit in the ass and thighs, but not so much the calf and ankle area. I'm a 30" inseam, so I'd have to hem 5-6 inches, and the leg opening is just too big if I have to do that. Can anyone recommend a jean that fits roughly the same as the Weird Guys in the ass and thighs but has a little bit more taper down low? Being short and having to hem a ton sucks.

Thanks!

At least you have a solution

34" inseam is too short for me (or mr preference) and looking for 36" inseam can really cut down your options at times

I have a jean question:

I'm looking for a pair of white selvedge jeans in a straight fit with a decent rise. I usually wear Gustin jeans but they don't produce white jeans so I'm hoping for something similar to gustin straight fit.

Someone recommended Jean Shop jeans which I had never heard of, in their Rocker fit (which is their straight fit) but they are sold out in my size. Im a 32.5" waist, so I usually get a 31 in Gustins.

I checked out Unbranded, Naked and Famous, plus some other brands I saw reading through 20 pages of this thread but few make white jeans, if they do they are skinny fit and those are usually sold out.

Any ideas welcome. Thanks for the help.
