Self Edge takes in-person drop-offs only at this point.

I've used these guys and been pleased with the results, although they seem to be better at indigo denim than black denim: http://htccalifornia.com/

I haven't had any repairs done by Railcar Fine Goods, but I was really happy with their tapering service the one time I used it.

Semi-related: One of the pockets in my Samurais has developed a hole. Any ideas for a cool fabric to patch it with? I'll probably just have a local tailor do it, but I'd rather bring in a scrap of something interesting than just take whatever crappy fabric they use by default.

I feel like I'm missing an obvious choice (or choices), but here goes:

Looking for a pair of jeans for business casual use. Slim but not skinny, and with a medium high rise (that part's been a bit of a challenge). Also, I need some room in the thighs. Dimensions near the following:

Size 32 or 33 waist
Rise - 11" ish
Thigh - 12.5"
Hem - 7.75"
Preferably no back pocket stitching, or at least something subtle. But this is easy enough to remove if needed, so not a deal breaker.

I don't care about price. I love my Oni 20 oz secret denim, and my heavyweight 24 oz Samurai, and my black overdyed IH 634-SB, etc. etc. etc. But for this purpose, just searching for some good looking dark indigo denim - no crazy weights, overdyes, fading properties, cuffs, stacks, etc. Something in the 14-16 ounce range.

Obviously I am snobby as hell when it comes to denim smile.gif, so the construction and materials needs to be solid. Any suggestions? These seem pretty close, but I'd like the hem to be a bit smaller: http://scout.heddels.com/brands/rrl/denim-jeans/rrl-slim-straight-rigid-jean-raw-denim-jeans

It's nothing fancy but what about Tellason? They sell a 16oz denim in the Ladbrokes Grove fit which is their slim fit.

Indigo Proof.

It's the new business venture from Rain Delisle, who did repairs for Self Edge for three years.  Her work is amazing, and unlike Self Edge, she takes mail-ins.

How about the IH-634SII, from Iron Heart?  The indigo weft makes them really dark, which is good.  The thigh, waist and rise numbers work about right, but you'll want to taper the hem.  You'll definitely have to rip off the back pocket stitching, because it's agressive.

2) Japan Blue Natural tapered might fit the bill. About $150 from Japan, $210 from www.blueowl.us. The extra is worth the convenience, IMO, but ymmv.

Just got the size up. A little loose in the waist, but exactly what I want elsewhere. Can the waist be taken in on selvage denim?

Not in a reasonable way. Just wear a belt, and or allow them to sag a bit. Jeans feel better with a bit of room anyway.

Yes you can take the waist in. I took the waist in on my Sugarcanes 1.75"! The jeans fit great when I purchased them at Self Edge and after 5 wears, the waist stretched like crazy. I was able to fully button the jeans and slide them off my body without undoing a single button. That was way too much stretch. I also tapered below the knee. So in reality, all I sized correctly were my thighs. Even though I'm a thin guy, I guess my thighs are relatively large due to squatting.

I'm trying to find another pair of jeans right now and it's difficult. If I have enough room in the thigh, the waist is usually too big and/or not tapered enough.

Railcar Fine Goods does a really impressive job on waist alterations. Their webpage describes the process, which is way more involved than putting in a couple of darts.

501STF for a first pair? I'm heading to try on some pre-shrunk Levi's today or tomorrow, but I think I'll be a 33x30 or 34x30. I'm planning to grab a pair the same size in waist and 2" longer off Amazon because I have a 20% off coupon. I don't wear denim all that often, mainly because the few pairs I have don't fit well any more, but I have been thinking about getting a pair for a while.

I guess the other popular option for cheap starter raws would be Unbranded. Are they a big step up from the STF? How can I easily determine my fit and sizing in them based on Levi's pre-shrunk sizing? I have larger thighs and seem to remember the last time I tried on Levi's, the popular fits like 511 and 513 were too tight on me.

Thanks - Elgin actually looks even a bit better for me (same fit except a higher rise). Only issue I can see is that back pockets look really large to me.

Love these, but would prefer not to have to taper, and I'd rather have a more "standard" denim rather than the indigo weft (which I otherwise really like - I've got a pair of PBJ xx-012)

The guy behind Ole Denim used to work/intern for 3sixteen I believe. Don't know about the quality though. Eleven Wolves is another one man brand like Ande Whall but based in Australia. I like the details of his denim, especially the pocket lining.
