Hello all,

Looking for some help on some Evis/ Evisu jeans I have owned for 15? years. Made in Japan with unusual different gulls on each rear pocket but especially the red pocket tag has Japanese writing and not Evis or Yamane? Any one up to speed on the old Evis stuff. Bought from an infamous character 'Charlie' who brought over collectables from Japan back in the day - Casio pump and mad digital watches, rare denim etc back then and sold to a few stores inc Jones on Floral St.

Raw No1 Special, rear pockets look much better 'painted' than mass market later versions. Yellow selvedge and red and yellow painted rear pockets. Thing I'm keen to know more about is the red tag on the pocket has Japanese writing, so were these a collab maybe? Rare? Seen on Evis, Evisu, Yamane and Labor on some real old ones but lost on these.

Thanks!

LC

Thanks, it's info on year and especially the unusual red tab I'm keen to know more about. Not worried about authenticity as all correct and totally trust guy I bought off. Jones and the like all bought special bits off him way before fake days. As an estimate it 1999?

how do these jeans fit? would you recommend sizing up in the waist 1 more to get a slightly roomier thigh area for this type/style of jacket/boot fit

I personally think the fit is fine, thigh doesn't look too tight to me. If they are raw denim I wouldn't size up as the waist will stretch a little. I'd keep those one's looks good.

Has anyone here had experience with sugar cane jeans?  Howd you like them and howd they age?

Think its worth getting them over say APCs? (ive only even bought APCs but im thinking of trying a different brand this time around)  Are they a good alternative to saying getting Levi LVC 1947s if i dont want to spend as much?

I personally haven't worn them, but have seen a few people wearing them and have handled sugar cane jeans. From what I can gather I think they are a more relaxed fit (don't hold me to this though) or it might have just been the guy sizing up a bit for a more comfort fit.

Quality wise they would run rings around APC. I have petite standards, I like the fit of them but quality is so so, compared to my samurai's and pure blue japans, and what I have seen of the sugar canes in person. Especially for the price of those sugar cane's you linked too, they are a good price! I'm not familiar with Levi sorry so can't chime in.

What APC's do you have?? If you want a more fitted pair, i'd recommend japan blue jeans. They should be around the same price point as the sugar canes. As for what models, I can't remember the slimmer fit ones sorry. I tried some on in japan, and they were decent jeans for the price! Would certainly buy those over APC's any day.

These could be an option too?? Depends on what you're after. http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/kitarou/item/jb010312/

Thanks.  Ive worn out and retired pretty much all of the cuts besides the latest petit new standards lol.  My latest pair though were a pair of new standards which i kinda got TTS/sized-up and I actually prefer the slightly more relaxed fit.

All good mate, I have stopped sizing down on my jeans now. I much prefer the TTS fit! Although even going TTS on some brands they are still a little tight, but still much more comfortable! If I think of some other jeans i've tried on that might be what you're after i'll let you know!

I have and like the Sugar Cane summer weight jean. Not enough wear yet to comment on that. But definitely a different animal than APC, from the cuts to the feel of the denim. While I agree that on an abststract level the SC are higher quality, they fill such different niches that I don't really see them as alternatives to each other.

so i just received some washed apc's in the mail and i noticed that there's a small hole/gap along the selvage on one side of the jeans:

is that something i should worry about? cosmetically speaking it does bother me a little, but i'm more concerned over the hole/gap getting bigger over time

it's as if whoever/whatever was stitching them accidentally skipped a half-inch or so

it is towards the lower end of the seam, and it ends up in the portion of the jeans that i actually cuff if that makes any difference

Just a few stitches coming undone; can easily happen on any pants. Easy to fix if you know how to sew anything at all, or a tailor/alterations place/competent dry cleaner could fix it in about ninety seconds.

Might not even need to be fixed if it's in the section you normally cuff; just keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't get bigger.

Who would you trust in NYC to taper a pair of 30BSPs?
