One button?  Stick with the same size.  Two buttons?  Move to a 34

If I'm not mistaken they have the biggest upper thigh Levi's makes (other than 562 and 569, both of which are described as loose) but they narrow a lot as you go down the leg (they have either the smallest or second smallest leg opening Levi's makes). You may want to try the 550, or 562. 514's might fit, because the leg on them is actually fairly loose (looser than 501's or 505's, oddly enough...) You really don't have many options though.

Useful information.  Thanks very much for replying, although I'm only seeing your post now.

After discovering that 520s were not going to work, I went ahead and ordered a couple pairs of 562s.  I sized down to 30 for the 562s because the waist on 520s measured 34.5" and I would prefer to start at 33.5 inches.

Received them today.  562s measure 34 inches at size 30.  Good thing I went down.

Unfortunately, the upper thigh of the 562s is roughly the same as the 520s (size 31) -- about 12.5 inches.

Took a fit pic but the lighting is terrible at night.

Same skinny jean feel.  I'll be driving these two pairs of 562s and the 520s to a Levi's outlet to duck the return shipping.

Will try again.  Any recommendations other than Levi's?  If not I'm ordering 560s from Amazon as a last resort.

You could always just get smaller thighs

Accidentally posted this in classic menswear :P. I have two questions about jeans. I've been wearing a pear of Levi's 508s in "rigid envy" for about 3 months and they fit relatively well. The only issue is after I washed them for the first time they became too short. I've also been reading a lot about raw denim during these last couple of months and have my eyes on a pair of ST-100Xs from 3sixteen. Anyway, I guess my questions are: "How does the fit compare between these two jeans?" and "If I purchase the ST-100Xs, are there any special precautions I should take if they need to be tailored?"

ugh that feel when you know what jean you want but cant have because it is out of stock or unavailable. Anyone else doing Levi repros under $200?

just got my rogue territory SK's in size 29. What do you guys think?

The waist feels snug maybe can size down 1 but dont think my calves can handle the size down. barely fit into these.

Had a pair of unbranded that felt like this but got too big. well those measured a 32 in waist and now these measure a 30.... so that could by why...

I have some jeans that are slightly too small around the waist. Is there anything I or a tailor could do about this?foo.gif

no

I have a question (cross post from the thrift thread), are these desirable? I had thought I came across a pretty nice find for cheap, but maybe not.

They fit well all the way up to the waist, where I have a good, I'd say, inch and a half of space I need to make up before I can button the fly.  shog[1].gif

Check out the measurements online for both jeans to get the best idea of fit.  Or ask in 3sixteen thread

Maybe a little OCD of me, but I would say to hot soak the jeans inside out before getting them tailored (get them chainstiched if possible) to get out the starch and the last little bit of shrinkage (they're sanforized which gets most but not all of the shrinkage out)

Don't machine wash such an awesome pair of jeans, leaves odd markings/lines.  Hand soak with some agitation.  But at a 45 minute hot soak they're probably 90% shrunk already.

Someone on SuFu advised "Just soaking FH jeans doesn't fully shrink them, I'd say give them a full wash (with or without soap) in warm water.  Agitation is absolutely crucial to get all the shrink out at once.  Don't worry about losing indigo, FH denim is insanely dark and retains its color really well."

Would it indeed be advisable to machine wash warm like this?

AB Fits is a workwear store in San Francisco that has their own Made in San Francisco denim line. While I have no direct experience with them I'd say it's a pretty good find.

Two quick questions. First, does RAF make selvedge jeans? I'm looking at this link trying to figure out if they are raw, regular jeans, or even real. Guy has perfect feedback though:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/315-Italy-RAF-SIMONS-Leather-Patch-Hard-Raw-Dark-Wash-Denim-Jeans-28-X-34-/261113032121?pt=US_CSA_MC_Jeans&hash=item3ccb8cadb9

Second, I'm rebuilding my jeans wardrobe (before they were just unfitted, too baggy). For the past few months I've been wearing some dark indigo 501 STF , soak/washed once. Not many fades but I like the fit. Now I'm looking to get maybe 2 - 3 more for the next year or two. I was thinking I should get a black pair and maybe a lighter wash, and if I could get them cheap enough a third dark wash. Any thoughts on this? I was thinking of going APC for black because my one experience with Levi black jeans faded in a weird way (but probably because I washed them too often back then).

I just bought a few pairs of the Tellason Ankara via the Filson sale. They are sanforized 12.5 oz cone mill denim. I hear all this advice about hot soaking to get accurate shrinkage, and I do plan to hem the length, but I always plan to cold wash these jeans and I plan enough rotation that I imagine cold washing perhaps 4 times a year. If a person plans to cold-wash the jeans, why advice to hot-soak?
