I have a jean...(The Ultimate Jean Thread For Beginners) - ask questions here. - Page 1231
This is my first post on the forum. I'm very sorry if it's redundant or obvious but I really have no idea what to do. I tried using the search function to find an answer but couldn't find a match to my problem. Ok, so I wanted to try out raw denim. I read lots of posts on this forum and my main forum (bb.com, yeah... not a great resource for style but it's where I was tipped to selvage) on which brands I should check out, how they fit, shrink, wear, cleaning etc. Lots of people suggested Naked and Famous would be a great entry point so I picked up a pair of weird guys from Revolve (along with a nudie khaki slim, also selvedge). Now, I don't look anything like the models. I have a big butt (hockey/soccer/lifting/genetics), big thighs and avg calves so most jeans that look skinny/slim on most people look that way around the waist/thighs for me also but look baggy at the calves. I really like the skinny look but it's hard for me to find a jean that will truly look skinny on me. I currently have 2 jeans I wear (I'm not fashionable, I dun have much clothing but I'm trying). Levi's 34/32 511's and Gap 33/32 Super Skinnies. They both are mostly cotton but have some type of elastic in them. They fit pretty tight around the waist/legs as usual but still are skinny around the calves.
Poorly splitting up the blocks of text so that it's easier on the eyes. Forgive my structure, math guy. Ok, so the weird guys are tight in the thighs/waist (but can stretch 1-2" so I'm not sure about if 32's would be better... I didn't see a 33 and 32 would be too tight I think) but the calves are super baggy and have sooo much length (can hem, so not a deal breaker). The nudies fit amazing but have a lot of rise? The portion between the crotch and waist. I'm thinking about sending them both back b/c the weird guys just don't fit at all in the calves and the nudies aren't worth paying 180 (-w/e discount I had... maybe 25%?). My 35-50$ levi's/gap jeans fit way better and look way better (imo) for 1/3rd-15th the cost.
I will send the nudies back, but do I taper/hem the weird guys (not sure about tailors in this area, have no experience and it's a gamble in general from what I read especially with a 140$ purchase now becoming ~170-180$) or send them back? If I send them back is there a raw jean that will fit me better?
My measurements (I think they're accurate)
Waist - 34
Butt - 38
Thigh - 24
Calve - 15
Thank you for help/input.
sry if double post, I couldn't see it when submitted.

We sound similar. Check out Blue Owl's Japan Blue 400sp. Should fit your bill.
Weird Guys
Current Gap
Not the best pics but gives a general idea. The gap ones are pretty form fitting and the weird guys have a lot of baggy lower leg. The jean legs also bunch so much and are pushed far enough out that they rub against each other when I walk.
Edit: Ok, fixed the rotation, should be good
Gents,
I'm new to the denim game (well, actually nice/good denim), so I wanted your opinion on my first buy. I settled on APC New Standards (I like slim but not skinny jeans) but I'm debating sizing. I'm a 34x34 in almost all pants, the waist from a true 34 (sits high on hips, dress pants) to 35 (low rise chinos, etc.). I've read for APCs that the size drop is anywhere from 1-3 inches - would a 32 or a 33 be my best bet?
Also, I tend to prefer less fading to more fading... for whatever reason I really like dark jeans. Should I just invest in a few cold soaks along the way or should I just let them do their thing? My plan is to wear them most weekends this fall / winter as I can't really wear them to work! Thanks all.

Wearing a very similar size to you, I would personally say 33s based on having tried on both a 32 and 33. 32 was far too tight in the thighs. 33 was a much better fit. What's more, apparently the sizing isn't as liberal as it used to be, but it'll all be up to how you want them to fit and what feels comfortable. If your hips are a 35, and that's where you'd wear the jeans, I would highly suggest a 33.
Edit: Also, fantastic avatar. Love el kün.

if you only plan on wearing them on weekends there's no need to worry about fading. Faint fading will begin appearing after ~3 months of EVERYDAY wear, so you should be fine. Also, don't soak them. That'll remove the sheen the new denim has and make them look 'flatter' and lighter in color.
Is there anywhere to get a pair of skinny Raw jeans for under $200? I'm 5'5 and slim(ish) (~135 lbs) so non-skinny jeans looks like hammer pants on me
I know about the APC New Cure, just wondering what else is out there.
Also, a pair of jeans like this with similar requirements (raw or otherwise)? I really like the color and fading. They're Levis Made and Crafted for $196 but I can't find that specific jean anywhere.

If you're looking for a fit more similar to the Gap denim, why not pull their measurements off the website and check out a number of denim vendors to see what might have a similar fit at your price point?
Not sure why you would have gone with the Weird Guy generally though...they're N&F's fullest cut, IIRC.
Hi. Does anyone know how fast/slow PRPS fade compared to other brands? This is my first pair of raw denim, they have around 5 months of effective wear and they seem to be very slow to fade. I know I probably can't expect the same results as with some other brands such as Samurai, Flat Head, etc., and I have a desk job so they hardly get any hard wear, but..
