Aaaaalright here goes: 5'9" about 215lbs.. powerlifter. I have a 32" waist and usually buy levis 514's in 34" because I can't fit my legs into anything else that isn't boot cut. I was talking to some people about raw denim being much more durable, as living in NYC I walk around a lot and within 3-4 months I have a hole in the crotch. So I was buying cheaper stuff because I was throwing away 4 pairs of jeans a year. Any particular brands/cuts you guys can think of that would suit me? I'm not going to spend $400 on a pair of jeans right out of the gate if I don't know if they're going to last. But anything under $200 I'm willing to give a go. Thanks.

It might be a little difficult to find heavier weight or better built denims at that level. APC Rescue might be a better fit for you but is a poor choice for durability.

Your two main denim shops are Self Edge and Blue in Green. Since they're about a 15 min walk from each other I'd start there, maybe look them up online to get an idea of which fits or prices appeal to you first. BiG might have more to offer in the $200 range, though. Brands like Studio D'Artisan, Samurai, etc. would work well.

RRL makes some great jeans, too, that aren't much more than $200 for raw. You'd probably want to look at the Straight Cut.

This list is a little outdated but still useful: http://www.styleforum.net/t/157881/non-apc-sub-200-raw-selvage-denim-options/0_50

Thanks for the info guys. I may go check out BiG today. Any thoughts on naked and famous stuff? Their weird guy fit especially.

If you like the fit, they're not a bad option, but keep in mind that their construction quality is commensurate with their pricepoint. If you go to BiG, you will notice that just about all of the brands there will have significantly better construction quality, but you will have to pay more as well.

I'm looking for a pair of Hickory Stripe jeans. Any Ideas as to where to find such a thing? I've got a call in w the Stronghold but I'm not in LA so i can't just stop by and see them. I know samurai had some a few years ago and I should've bought them then. They had the looser fit I'm looking for but i'm not seeing them available anymore.

I have been wearing RRL low straights but I find that APC's New Cure fit me even better, in particular the rise and thigh. I'm looking for other makers who match APC's NC fit, or (better) have a slightly slimmer thigh by 1/2" - 3/4". I'm limited to online purchasing, so if you could recommend a seller too that would be very appreciated. Thanks and best regards.

Ended up buying a pair of somét jeans at blue
In green. I tried on like 6 different pairs and these fit best. To get my legs into some of them I had to go to a 36 and then the waist was huge and the width around the calf was maaaassive and it looked stupid. With these I was able to get a 33 and they taper from wide for my thighs to normal for my calves. Thanks for recommending blue in green. They were super nice. Ended up spending $325 though. No fail there; you found jeans that fit you. The fail was all the previous jeans w/ too large waist and calves. Now that you've found your make and model you keep an eye on sales.
