I was shopping on portland today and i came across an interesting pair of selvedge jeans. Does anyone know anything about undefeated denim?
I saw a pair of these at the Compound for $98 http://www.denimology.com/2010/08/un...edge_jeans.php

An interesting thing i noticed about them was that they had a zipper fly instead of button fly, which i've never seen before.

^common misconception is that selvedge denim is better quality. selvedge [alone] does not constitute higher quality. on unknown brands [with no reps] where there isn't any kind of documentation to support performance, you need to bite the bullet & research/discover it yourself.

@IIrd Icon- Yup, I sized down 1 and ordered a size 32. My true waist size is a 33. I didn't request for a hem though (which I am now regretting), as I wasn't sure if I wanted to wear stacked or clean/cuffed.

I got some rigid 514's from levi in 29 waist, and I feel like they're a bit too roomy in that regard. I tried 28 on but they were too tight.

Anyway, is there anyway I can shrink about half an inch out of the waist? The length is just about right as-is, but could probably stand some incremental shrinkage.

Advice?
Thanks.

Pretty much anything will shrink at least a little with a hot soak/wash and machine dry, but they'll probably stretch back out as well. You can mitigate this by wearing a belt.

No, you don't. You can soak if you want to, and it should remove some of the starch (making the jeans soften up faster as you wear them) and get rid of any minor shrinkage that would occur with the first wash. They aren't shrink-to-fit jeans, though, so there shouldn't be very much shrinkage regardless.

Can someone please recommend some high quality denim?

I went TTS (32) on APC NS in 2008 and proceeded to lose 15 lbs of fat after that. Needless to say, they are too loose. Not to mention I've had to repair them 5-6 times.

So I'm looking for my next pair!

I'm 5'11, and all my well fitting chinos/shorts/trousers are exactly 16.5 x 2 = 33'' waist. My upper thigh measurement (body) is 22.5 - 23''. Maybe irrelevant, but my chest is 40'' - you guys seem to know what works really well for all body types.

Looking for a good fit above all - preferably something that doesn't annihilate chances of reproduction. Thanks in advance!

if you're still interested in APC's, my measurements are almost exactly the same (except my thigh is more like 22 to 22.5 nowadays) and i wear 28 NS, fwiw. they have stretched alot though, 29 might be a better idea if you dont want very tight at first.

I don't see how you guys can size down so much on the NS. I'm a tts 32 and I couldn't get the 30's past my lower thighs. And I'm 6'0 around 175lbs. I guess everyone is bulit different. a 31 was spot on for me in the NS.

i think the number is a bit misleading at first glance. a size 28 measures 30" (15" across) when new, and they stretch at least 2" in the waist, more if you buy them tighter. my 28's measure 17" across now (34")

Same exact experience for me. Except I should've bought 31 like you did, instead I went TTS @ 32. I'm 5'11, weigh 175 also - have you found any other other jeans that fit well? I don't want to buy APC again - need some variety!

The KMW 1980 fit me great tts in a 32. I would say that model is similar to the NS since it's slim straight. It's a little more expensive but it's definitely better quality denim.

So I've figured out my perfect jean measurements, and i was hoping you guys could help me out. What measures: Waist: 32" Front Rise: 9.5" Back Rise 13" Thigh: 11.5 Knee: 8" Hem: 7-7.5" after a bit of stretching? I want to ball out on this purchase so Sammies, FH, IH etc. are all fair game. But I'd be willint to try N&F/APC etc. as well. Thanks!

KMWs 1980s was a bit of an odd fit for me. The waist itself is a tad roomy for me (TTS 29) but the area right below the waist was tight. Not sure if I should have sized down one or not...
