I'm a former bodybuilder and current powerlifter who likes fashion a fair deal. I'm looking for some quality jeans of a skinnier variety, and have been researching APC's and Nudies.

The problem is, my legs are MUCH bigger than the average person. My measurements are:

Waist: 36.25 inches
Thigh, circumference: 25.75 inches
Knee, circumference: 16 inches
Pant Length (dress pants, not jeans): 36.5 inches
Pants Hip (around widest part of butt): 42.25 inches.

Can anyone advise as to what style or fit may both fit me and give me the desired look? Don't say it can't be done because I have some Levi's 511's or 514's (don't remember) that fit very well, among many others. Just looking for some raw/selvedge. Thanks!

36 is around your hips where you wear your jeans, or your true waist measurement?

either way, i dont think you'll have too much of a problem, right now i measure 35" around my hips where i wear my jeans and i have 23-24" thighs, and i can fit in size 31 APC petit standards with room to spare in the thigh. (though i dont do any leg exercises so your legs are probably shaped different from mine).

Calves on the petit standard are narrow though, so if you have large calves you're probably better off with new standards or something, though they are more of a straight leg but with a slight taper.

for comparisons sake, i used to wear size 28 new standards (about two sizes too small now though) and i remember thinking that they fit similar to levis 511's in 32 or 33, though the 511's were slightly more tapered and i think had a lower rise.

can't really help you as far as other brands of jeans go, i've only owned APC.

this actually does help. 36 is around the band of the jeans. So, (complete n00b here), you bought 31's and stretched them to fit your natural waist size, or are they vanity sized? Also, I'm used to stretch denim which feels amazing. How's stiff denim?

EPaulet Smiths - according to description they are Sanforized.

I'll probably end up wanting to have them taken up a little, and potentially slightly tapered. Is it advisable to do that straight away or should I wear them for a bit first?

Okey, so they are sanforized. You can wear them straight away.

Considering altering the denim. Wouldn't you be better of to trade/buy a pair of jeans that has a fit you want? Instead of buying something you need to alter? Ofcourse it ain't a problem, but if a tailor screws up...

Anyway, since sanforized denim doesn't shrink much (aprox 3%), you can do the alteration whenever you want. But personally I would search a fit that matches my criteria.

APC's are vanity sized, it's advised to size down two (measured to tagged)

And well, stiff denim feels stiff, what else would it feel like? It's like wearing a piece of cardboard, that is untill the jeans have softened up, which they will do after a week or two of wear.

they are vanity sized, but they also stretch alot.

check out http://www.contextclothing.com/brand...d=A.P.C.+Denim for measurements of the different cuts of APC jeans, context's charts are the most accurate i've seen. my petit standards measured exactly the same as their chart when i got them, though i think the thigh is marked slightly small on the chart for the new standards.

APC is made of notoriously stretchy denim, my size 28 new standards stretched a total of 4" before they wouldn't stretch anymore, but this was because i kept wearing them after i grew out of them. the usual amount is about 2" to 3" of stretch in the waist, and about .5" in the thigh, though i think some people in the APC thread said theirs have stretched more. not all raw denim brands are like this though, some stretch lots, some barely stretch at all.

APC denim isn't stretch denim (meaning it doesn't contain any elastic) and its pretty stiff and uncomfortable at first, but thats just how it is with raw denim. i had bruises on my hips for the first couple days of having new denim. after some time they stretch out and soften up and look great. if you read the APC thread, the general advice is to buy them so they're tight in the waist, or so you can't button the top button when you get them. when my PS were new, i could get the top button done but it was hard to do (now they're a bit loose in the waist) and the legs were tight all over, but they fit great now. just dont be afraid if they feel too tight everywhere at first, thats normal, haha.

honestly, the best denim sizing advice i can give is this; measure a pair of jeans that fits you well, compare these measurements to the chart on context, and factor in the stretch i mentioned above.

just for reference, heres a fairly recent picture of how my APC PS fit from the waywt thread http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/1338/img1852ju.jpg

Sale price + a very good and cheap tailor. I don't want to alter them much - just take them in a little bit.

why does it matter if you were a former juicer? it would be me like saying: hello, i never lift weights but i like fashion ... it makes no sense and nobody cares. anyway, i would recommend the oni blue cut or the sugar cane 66 or 47 cut if you wanna do some real denim and will look good on your body type. hope this helps.

I think he included the info so we'd have a better idea of what type of build he has.

I agree with you on your recommendations, though. Someone with a bodybuilder's build is going to look better in the cuts you recommended than they will in slim jeans.

yeah, i think so, slim jeans on builders is sometimes hard to pull off.

Hey guys, I'm going to be at Mortar in Houston on Tuesday, and just wondering if you guys could recommend a pair of jeans to buy there. I've never actually had any experience with any of the brands they carry except Earnest Sewn's, and just wanted to get recommeandations from any of you guys who have had any of the brands they carry (Triple Works, Left Field, Rogan, KMW, Baldwin, ect.). What I'm looking for is a straight or slim straight cut, raw, (preferably selvedge, but not a deal breaker), and would really like something without contrast stitching, or just a different contrast stitching as opposed to orange or gold. Obviously I will be there trying them on, but I just want to get an idea of their different brands quality, construction, characteristics of the demin and fading, stretch, ect. P.S. Money isn't really an issue I just want a good quality pair for the price I end up paying. I'm not new to raw denim, just new to their brands.

So I've read around 400 pages so far... and will eventually get around to it. I took a bunch of pics to ask which one fits best for me. I've never had slim fit pants before, so I have no clue what it should or shouldn't look like. Relevant info is as follows Height: 5'11" Weight: 180+-5 True Waist size: 33" Thighs: 23.5" Helps me choose one plz. O ya, and the Thin Finn is size 32 I believe. I pologize for the s**** editing. This computer doesn't have photochops. I liked the Dior's as they looked pretty good, but also like the NS's and Rescues. What jeans are similar to these?
I ain't quite a denim sage yet, and without considering the stretch factor those Dior > APC by far, judging by the pics.

dior 19cm or apc rescue imo
