I have a jean...(The Ultimate Jean Thread For Beginners) - ask questions here. - Page 740

Yes, I have done this before and it works reasonably well. I got a pot of water and got it to about boiling temperature, then dipped the top block of my jeans in it. They shrunk down a good amount and it didnt change the color or look of the jean.

Is it harder to get a pair of denim taper from the inseam rather than the outseam to not mess with the selvedge line?

Looking to purchase a pair of raw Dior 21cm Jeans. How many should I size down? I'm generally a size 31 or 32, wear a 29 in APC Rescues.

Yep. Denim tapering can look a little funny though so make sure you're tailor knows what you want.

Hey guys. I've never done much jean shopping in my life. All of my jeans I've bought at either gap or express. I went into gap to get some new jeans (since only one pair fits well anymore) and I couldn't find any that I liked. I also don't have an express where I live.

I'm not looking for raw denim, japanese, diesel, etc. I'm not even looking for sevens/true religion/rocknrepublic/etc. since they are really expensive where I live in Canada.

I need some recommendations on stores/brands for normal cheap decent jeans. Something slightly more fashionable than gap.

The collective opinion on this site (from some searches I did) seems to be that levi's are a good bargain, but I haven't seen any in stores where I live. But I will look.

stores where I've looked:
gap: didn't like any
guess: seemed overpriced for quality
lucky brand: too expensive

what else is there?

Yes, it is harder. You're dealing with a multi-stitch felled seam on the inside, versus a single-stitch flat (butt) seam on the selvage side. The felled seam is just the flat seam rolled and stiched a second time. Take a closer look and see. My tailor dislikes dealing with the inseam, and prefers tapering on the outseam. Your selvage band will be preserved, but will be wider. But that doesn't really matter unless you cuff.

If I were to get a pair of 501 STF tapered, would it be better to wait after the soak or do it immediately?

Suggest Levis 514 or H&M Sliqs. Affordable, nice, available in raw, or unraw depending on what you want.

Hi guys,

I found this forum a couple weeks ago and finally decided to join. I just wanted to say thanks to all for your advice. It really helps out, especially for someone like me with no style at all.

I'm 6'2 170lbs and I bought a couple pair of Levi's 514's. They're pretty dope! For as long as I've been buying my own clothes, I've bought them oversized and baggy and it looked pretty ridiculous on skinny ole' me. Too bad it took so long to realize it (I'm 23 now).

I was kind of afraid to buy the 514's because they were "slim" but they fit really well. I'm thinking about buying a pair of raw 514's as well. I normally wear a 33/34 so should I size down to a 32? 32 waist pants really hug tight on my waist and its a little uncomfortable but I've been reading that they stretch. This will be my first pair of raw jeans so I want to get it right.

Also, the two pairs of 514's I have now are tumbled rigid and tumbled black. Should I have washed them first to get the extra dye out or will it make them too light?

Thanks again!

I think the Wings and Horns slim fit denim has measurements that are about what you've posted.

True waist: 36 but I like pants to fit a bit tight in the waist. My trousers are 35 and my jeans stretch comfortably to 35. (501 STF's)
Inseam: 35 (i like to roll them up a bit)
Leg opening: around 8"
Overall fit: Something fairly slim, like Tom Ford's jeans.
Budget: $350
Misc: No hugely obvious branding. I'm liking APC New Standards but the rise is too low. I intend to wear these with pretty much anything from RM Williams boots to chucks. I'd prefer a plain or non-descript back pocket stitching but its not a deal breaker.

Looking for raw indigo selvedge, not a fan of pre-distressed stuff. Prefer full cotton denim as opposed to having a bit of elastane in. Thanks guys!!

thanks. aren't those skinny fit? I should've mentioned that I'm a 32/30 and have large legs and ass from weightlifting. I have to wear relaxed fit in almost any brand even though I like my jeans to fit fairly snug.

Does H&M have jeans for bigger legs? What about stores like urban outfitters and zara?

Hi, I was wondering how the Epaulet Smiths fit in relation to Nudie's Slim Jims? I might pass on my Slim Jims because they are little on the small side and the Smiths are cheaper.

I've owned them both and I got rid of the Nudies and still wear the EP's.

I think the Nudies are kind of slimmer in the top block and thigh but straight from the knee down. They'll stretch out a little in the waist and seat after a while. I owned the Dry Japan version and they kind of looked like women's jeans on me.

There's a slight taper to the EP's. I think you'll hear recommendations for the Smith's all around if you're talking about construction and denim, but people's bodies differ.

Any brand make a black coated selvedge denim with a fit similar to APC NS?
