I got engaged tonight!

So I've been dating this girl since last march and tonight popped the big question. Took her to the restaurant where we first met but it was loud and busy so I took her for a walk in a nearby park after, faked having a problem with my shoe and sat on a bench. When she sat down also, I got down on one knee and asked. She said yes and cried.

Congrats! A walk in the park, though? Sounds a bit like Old 97's "Question."

I always planned on proposing to Gina Davis at gunpoint while wearing a clown suit.

I suppose a walk in the park would be ok too.

But then you realized that you had amnesia and that "engaged" meant you were supposed to kill her. Starring Samuel L. Jackson. Rated R.

Negative. Maverick will not engage.

I don't understand the "down on one knee" aspect of traditional courting. I will propose while standing erect dammit, if that's the last thing I do.

See if everyone doesn't ask why you didn't. It's tradition and women like it.

I believe it also shows symbolically submitting your life to your fiancee. Giving up your bachelor status, and deciding henceforth that all decisions will be made as a couple versus what is best for your as an individual.

Fixed.

Of course, this is only true when both of you understand what's going on.

Congratulations to the OP!

Congrats to the OP

IMO a good marriage is one of the best things that can happen to a person. Of course, a bad one will mess you up for life.

Congrats. I became engaged a few months ago and am looking forward to my Sept 27 wedding.

In simple terms, the act signifies that you are swearing away your liberty!

Congrats!
