You're confusing the two because they *gasp* both have straight hair, and asians have always had inherently straight hair.

The Asian haircuts vary depending on age and region. The guy in New York may sport his hair long, but his San Francisco counter-part may do something shorter. The place you frequent apparently favors the longer "emo" look.
