I've heard a lot of people say to size down on overcoats, so would a 40 wear a 38?

^ Depends how fitted you like it. It would certainly fit you if you sized down, and if you want to wear it without a suit or huge amounts of layers underneath I'd say definitely size down. That coat looks spectacular.

If you're a 40 and planning to wear it over a suit, I would say that this wouldn't work. I'm a 37 or 38, & this fits perfectly.
