Some possibly interesting information. Just getting the word out because usually Times articles are only free to access temporarily.

Article.

So this means I'll still need to run today's 5K despite burning fever, running noses, sore throat, and a mild case of headache?

F*ck

Ran a 20k like that. Didn't enjoy it much but didn't make things worse, either.

I thought my sarcasm was quite obvious, but next time I'll add an emoticon just in case.

Interesting. It's not available online, huh? Maybe it's what prompted the Times to do the article.

I don't get it. Who ever thought you couldn't exercise in the cold?

On a related note,

Another reason to exercise when it's cold outside?
Or you'll get fat. Quick.

Should you workout when you actually have a cold?
Of course. Duh.

In high school having a cold was not a good enough reason to not do the day's workout. But the cardio really does open up your nasal passages and temporarily relieve symptoms. When I had a cold, I usually felt better at the end of a cardio workout than I did the entire rest of the day. It just took a lot of effort to actually get moving.

^ +1. I also sweated like a pig afterward*, which, as Mom used to say, is the best thing to happen when a cold hits.

*: I chickened out and ran indoor. On a treadmill.

The article I think misses the whole point of why people don't like to excercise in the cold: because it sucks. I'm sure if I lived at the North Pole I would run in -50 but I don't so I just wait untill it warms up a tad.

Exercise in the winter is fantastic. I would trade a bit of cold for a ton of heat, sweat and humidity any time.
