I saw a guy get stabbed

I know this sounds like a bad joke without a punchline, but it's 100% true and unembellished. I just wanted to share this anecdote.

I love rap music but had never been to a live concert before. A friend got some VIP tickets to a Fabolous concert at a club and invited me along. When we got there, security was pretty tight and there were already police in the building. They searched anyone who looked like a thug at the door but they just told me to keep moving. I still don't know if that's I should feel good about that or kinda insulted.

We made our way to our seats and sat through a few opening opening acts. There was one guy who in a hoodie with the hood up, shades on, and a red bandana around his mouth on stage acting as some other guy's hype-man. After that he took his hood and bandana off to do a few songs himself, and after watching him for about 2 minutes, I realized it was the guy who used to live down the street from me in junior high which was pretty cool. I got to catch up with him after his set while he was milling around the VIP which was nice. By that time it was 11:30 and there was still no sign of Fabolous.

Around 10-20% of the people at the concert were smoking weed, and this was all right in front of the police, who didn't seem to care, which kind of surprised me. I guess the police realized they wouldn't have enough holding cells if they wanted to arrest everyone getting high at that concert. The crowd was maybe 30% black people, but 90% of the people getting high were white boys dressed like Eminem (that's just an observation, I don't mean to imply or suggest anything by it, so don't read into it.)

Then in between the sets while we were basically sitting and waiting for something to happen and wondering where the hell Fabolous was, we saw a fight break out across the other side of the club. At first fists were flying with like 8 guys, then security and police jumped in. For awhile you couldn't see what was happening, but then there was a white guy in a wife-beater leaning over clutching his side with blood everywhere. EVERYONE saw this. People just sort of watched, and 2 minutes after he was rushed to the hospital, everyone had forgotten and was talking about why Fabolous was so damn late getting to the stage. I was the same way too. I forgot all about this guy like 2 minutes later.

I would have guessed watching someone get stabbed would be this shocking event, but at this particular rap concert, we all got to witness it right in front of us, and it was pretty mundane. Interesting first concert.

P.S. I know you're all very concerned about the outcome of this story and YES, thankfully, Fabolous finally showed up at 12:45AM.

my dad came to this country in 1965. On his immigration card it listed
[ ] White
[X] Negro
[ ] Other

he knew he wasn't white, and knew he wasn't other, so he chose negro because he had no idea what that meant

I remember reading in the source magazine a letter to the editor where a woman from Philly wrote something to the effect of "I saw some neighborhood thugs beat a pizza delivery kid into a coma and want to come forward to help the authorities, but everyone is wearing t-shirts that say STOP SNITCHING, what should I do?" My head almost exploded when I read that. I also watched some hip-hop reality show where contestants voted each other off. One contestant refused to cast a vote for the weakest team-mate to be voted off because: "I ain't no snitch!" The host looked dumb-founded and disgusted by this and kicked the guy off for not voting, but first gave him a 5 minute lecture on what did and didn't constitute snitching. Priceless.

1) It was a joke
2) You don't live in a neighborhood where you might get anything from stalked to killed for talking to the police, especially in Philly.
3) You're the one who was impressed by police not doing anything about people smoking weed. I'm guessing this was your first concert?

1) I said LOL before my rant (it wasn't directed at you, just in general, I get a twitch whenever I hear that phrase.)

2) Never been to Philly. 3) Yup, said that in the OP

i was jus sayin son... thought you was tryin to drop knowledge for a minute... just thought you needed to fall back.

You don't have to go to philly to realize that people at the very least get stalked and at worst seriously hurt or killed for going to the police regardless of whether you're in the street game or not. Your definitions of "snitching" aren't correct.

If I understand your story, you didn't really see this guy get stabbed then. You saw commotion, then you saw a guy with blood on him and assumed (correctly) he got stabbed. A little different than seeing the guy jam the blade into the guy's side.

I second the "Stop Snitchin' Movement" motion.
