Red Wings GT vs. White's Semi-dress - Page 3

Considering the Fryes cost more than the GTs and they're made in Mexico I'm not sure how they can be considered a good value in comparison. Explain to me what justifies their price and maybe I'll understand why my statement about them "seeming overpriced" is wildly incorrect. Edit: I'll admit my statement on quality is rather subjective. But I do own GTs and I have a hard time imagining the Sids being better constructed for that price range.

I really prefer the look of the 1914's to the 1911's - the shape is much less chunky:

Having both, they're def the same in terms of fit/shape. The differences are really minor, like the area around the welt on the black 1914 is black, whereas the cherry 1911 has a natural oak color around the welt, just like the rest of its sole.

What is a canted heel?

look at the whites boot. I like the white's boot more than most boots. I wish the toe was a little slimmer, but it looks good. I want to purchase a pair for this fall/winter

Um, that heel is standard on packers, logging boots, firefighter's boots, cowboy boots etc. There is nothing feminine about it. It's not Cuban either, and on the semi-dress it's not that big. Still it is a different look (Western) than the GT's so I can see people factoring it in.

is a 12 the largest size in the gt's?

I agree. I think it looks fine. And it's main purpose is to ease comfort while walking is it not?

it's where the heel slants inwards (on the semidress). on the GT you'll notice that the heel goes straight down, much like most dress shoes you see.

I have redwing 1908s, the ones with the moc toe and I really like them. I want another pair of boots and I'm also choosing between the GT and White's. I have been eyeing the white's for some time. I like the lower toebox profile on the white's, compared to the GTs.

Ideally I would like a black roughout single leather sole with cat's paw on top of that.

Where can you buy white's boots online? Stronghold sells them for $440 which I believe is just a tad overpriced for this boot.

I just (1.5 hours ago or so) got a pair of the GTs at DSW for $150. They fit my feet remarkably well; most shoes don't.

Is that useful information to anyone? Maybe not, but I'm happy enough with the purchase that I want to share. If you have somewhat narrow feet, the GTs might work especially well for you? Also if you have a DSW near you, check the clearance area. That's where I saw these, at 40% off.

That is interesting. I just tried on the Red Wing 1907 Classics that most people wear and I found them to be really wide even though I have wide feet. I was worried that the GTs would be the same. Nice to hear they might be narrower.

How did they compare with other brands in terms of sizing?
