Hi all, been watching this forum for some time off and on. Decided to jump in.

I have been looking for which online custom shirt maker is a good place to start. It seems to me that most of the blog type sites are paid reviews, so there is no real value to determine if makers are crap or not. Also, are most of these guys really just selling standard sizes or are they really custom made? Any suggestions of reliable, good fitting, and quality for the price? I have looked at Proper Cloth, Blank Label, iTailor ratio, J.Hilburn, Natty, and several others.

Some comments:
I typically wear a sport coat, but not always (office is more casual), never a tie, and quality wool dress pants.

My local men's shop will do bespoke, but he is out of his mind for how much a shirt like this should cost, i.e. $375.

I have a some of Charles Tyrwhitt from last season and looking for replacements. These shirts are pretty nice for the money, but I do not like that they do not have sleeve placket buttons and the cuffs are too tight for a watch. Also, the current styles are a bit blah. The rest of the shirts in my closet are higher end Nordstrom's brands and Forsyth of Canada. The local men's shop stopped carrying the Forsyth shirts that fit me pretty well.

I would like the best value, but better fitting. My opinion is that cheap fabric that fits will look far better than supper nice fabric with crap fit.

Any guidance is welcom?

Thanks,
Bill

Online MTM can be fraught with danger as many threads testify, I use Ascot Chiang in Hong Kong (and have for 25 years) but they do have a pattern specifically for me. I am also in Hong Kong pretty frequently and so it can be adjusted as my shape changes, usually for the worse!

Perhaps better to search through each of those makes on here to see if one smells less than the others. One piece of advice though, buy just one first time to establish how they interpret your measurements, in that lies the bear pit. Indo Chino sticks in my mind as being particularly bad. Google may also throw up some information on them from elsewhere.

Not a lot of specific help in that but historic advise might be a better bet lest no one picks your question up and answers this time round.

Luxire or Proper Cloth. Both are affiliates and have active threads on SF.

Proper Cloth's website is much easier to use; Luxire has many more options.

Cheers,

Ac

My suggestion is to order Individualized shirts from Epaulet.

My other suggestion is to avoid Luxire.

If you budget is as high

You can get handmade and a true Neapolitan shirt way cheaper, my advice is to avoid all English “shirt” makers.

I've used mytailor.com for many years with very good results. You can pick fabrics that work out as low as $75 per shirt but my usual Thomas Mason fabric choices are around $175-$200. Best of all they have a ton of different fabrics at different prices. There is a good selection at every budget. Excellent customer service too.
