Hi All,

I have read that black is more formal, but I don't really like the look of navy with black.
It is a lighter navy, plaese see an example:

But planning on a ligher-grey-blue or grey bowtie. The lapel is black like the photo.

Is a brown shoes really that big of a no-no with a tux? The rest of the guests would be in suits. and so will the groomsmen

Thanks

Black or wear a suit yourself.

Agree with above.

Also-- either that rig he has on is made out of rubber, or the person doing the photoshopping needs to lay off the coffee...

Yes, it is really that big of a no-no. Wear black shoes with a tuxedo, no exceptions.

However, your wording implies that you are a guest at this wedding. If so, under no circumstances is it acceptable for you to wear a tuxedo unless the invitation explicitly states that the dress code is black tie. To be the only person wearing a tuxedo would be extremely rude to the bride and groom. Their wedding is not about you. Wear a suit.

No brown shoes pleeeeeease, else skip the tux. Also if the lapels are black, then please stick with a black bow-tie (it is supposed to match the satin or grossgrain lapels and cummerbund).

With this being said, I have a hard time calling that thing on the photo a tuxedo or dinner suit. While MIDNIGHT blue is a viable alternative to black, a medium blue like on the photo takes all things distinguished and classic away from the outfit. Sorry, but this looks like high school prom night.
