Should I get a Wngs+Horns Buffalo check jacket?

Normally, when I see one of these "Should I get..." threads, my Spamminate finger trembles. But I think this might spark some discussion. I've been debating whether or not I ought to get one of the Wings+Horns buffalo check jacket.

The fit is great. I can find a few in colors I like in my size at an affordable price. It fits in with my style, but I don't have anything very similar to it. And I could definitely see myself wearing it.

However, I don't live in LA any more. Nor in Boston. I am in Moscow, Idaho, where buffalo check jackets are typically worn to work in the field. Or for hunting. Or whatever. Mostly stuff I don't do. My outdoor sports generally calls for hightech gear. So, my question is, does wearing a designer version of a check jacket in Moscow, ID, make it even cooler. Or would it make me a loser of immense proportions? And does the price matter?

Well, I can't find a picture on Peasant's site anymore, but here it is (about a size or two too large on the mannequin) on the Steady boutique site. It looks a lot nicer in person.

Very nice-- can't go wrong with the quality of W & H. The photo you posted looks authentic enough and if you think the fit is good, I don't think the folks in Moscow, Idaho will make a fuss. Is there a big difference in price? I'm going to Oregon this weekend and will be on the hunt for a flannel coat ( i.e. authentic ) ones. Hope I find something. Does Wing and Horn have a boutique in L.A?

Wings+Horns does not have any boutiques in LA, but I believe that it can still be found at Carve and at Fred Segal Man.

I wanted to like it based in the description, but after seeing it... it didn't really strike me as anything special. This might just be one of those pieces you have to see in person though as you stated that it was nicer in person. Based on the internet photo, I'd spend my money on something else. As far as the psychology of wearing a luxe version of what locals might wear normally... That's a bit more difficult. I suppose you wouldn't be able to admit how much it cost to anyone. If it makes you happy though... Moscow, ID. I actually know someone that moved there for school this past year... Random.

Thanks. I remember seeing Wings+Horns at American Rag on La Brea but no more. Speaking of American Rag, I saw some really nice vintage flannel coats at their Denim World department but they were selling for about 375 USD up. I'm talking Vintage Sears Flannel jackets.

Even cooler.

Just don't use DHL.

Yes.

you could wear ANY version of a check jacket in moscow, id and make it cooler, it all depends on the outfit. i mean, the designer versions are still inspired by the original workwear, most of which is built to last anyway, and while the fit may not be perfect, all i'm saying is that it's possible to make anything look chic if put together smartly.

I REALLY freaking wanted that jacket after Karissa said the sale price dropped once again at Peasant. By the time I got there, it was gone.

These are made in the first world, right? 300 is not even an embarrassing price, considering it's all wool. Quality hunting gear is expensive, too. Buy it. If my mixer didn't blow up last weekend, I'd be getting it. I might anyways, so hurry up.

I don't think anyone's going to call you out on it, to be honest I don't think most people would really consider whether or not there's that level of pretension to it.

If anything, I would guess you might even get compliments on it from people who might otherwise not feel any connection to your style.

You're really in a perfect place for anything work wear-ish. Embrace it. The locals will unconsciously think you're cool without mistaking you for one of them. I think.
