X-post from WAYWRN. I really like this tie, but don't reach for it too often because of the high vividness of the pattern and colours.

* suit made by Krupa & Rzeszutko tailors
* Tyrwhitt
* tie from Embassy of Elegance
* ps from Poszetka
* Yanko

x-post WAYWRN - a tie I rarely wear, due to its color, though I believe that it can be worn successfully.

A mulberrywood weave silk tie from Sam Hober. The tie is very well made and the fabric is unusual and beautiful with a weave that gives real depth of colour. What I didn't realise when I ordered it though was that the fabric would have such a strong sheen. This makes the tie difficult to match. In the beginning I started with combining the tie with back-to-basic outfits like a charcoal suit and a white shirt. But then I felt that the tie stood out too much and became the singular focal point. Now I try with dark colours but combined with patterns and some green to pick up the emerald from the tie.

I have many difficult ties but I kept thinking of @An Acute Style ’s comments ‘I’m always peeved by the poster who complains they have a hard time wearing a navy knit tie …’ I do! Yes, of course, I have a limited wardrobe, but it’s not that alone that is the problem but rather the tie itself.

This lovely dark navy Budd knitted tie ought to be easy to wear. But it’s not:
  • The dark colour conveys formality while the knitted texture suggests informality. 1960s Mods would have worn it with very formal suits but that does not seem quite right today.
  • It is also a very heavy tie and therefore difficult to control without a tie pin or something.
  • Finally, it is almost impossible to achieve a decent knot.

But I love it, of course, and wear it notwithstanding the many challenges - as I did here last week with this vintage Dunhill tie clip to keep it under control.

I usually dispose of difficult ties with crafty excuses. "Sorry, but I spilled coffee all over that "Snoopy in a Santa hat" tie you gave me." Everyone at work loved it though!." Anyway, my wife got me this awesome Zegna tie. I call it my "Myst" tie as the colors and design remind me of the classic video game. Anyway, it can be difficult to wear to work sometimes. Worn here with blue suit (much bluer than pic shows), light blue shirt and light blue PS.

Suit: Canali
Tie: Zegna
Shirt: Ledbury
PS: BB

It's always difficult @smittycl when the difficult tie was a present from wife or partner. Mrs K suggested I wore a certain tie she bought me a few years ago and I made some excuse, not wishing to tell the whole truth...

I've gone out the door, briefcase in hand, wearing a tie my kids gave me so they could see me in it. Proper tie hidden in briefcase, of course, for immediate change at work. Hard part was remembering to switch back on the way home.

Smashing! Which watch are you wearing, if you don't mind my asking.

The watch was a corporate award watch from Tiffany's, awarded to my late husband for 25 years of service in the financial services industry (due to mergers, it says "Shearson Lehman Brothers", though most of his career he was with E F Hutton). It is very simply styled, and is (happily for me) smaller than what is in vogue currently.

My entry. This tie immediately caught my eye when I spotted it online. It looked like a great summer tie - beige with a simple pattern, linen etc.

It is, in every way, a DIFFICULT TIE.

1600

Why have I tucked it in, you ask?

The thing is long. Really long. Either I misread the description or it stretched...a lot.

It's thin, too, which makes it hard to tie a decent knot.

It's also without interlining. This, combined with the crunchy, breezy material makes tying and draping a nightmare.

This tie is from SuitSupply outlet and I'm still not sure if I should have keep it, but it didn't cost much anyway.

In addition to it's very specific design, it is thick as hell and a pain to knot.

Still, as it is blue brown grey, it's manageable to fit it in the uniform...
