Are these shoes salvagable?

I scraped the toe of these Park Avenues on the ragged metal bottom of a filing cabinet. Then I compounded the trouble by pulling the loose flap of leather off, and took off more than I meant to.

Resolving to do no more harm, I now ask the forum: can these shoes be repaired? Is that worth trying?

You can use a resin based renovating cream that is matched to the color of your shoes. Naturally black is the easiest color to match. Saphir and others make such products. It's kinda like bondo for shoes and how well it turns out depends on how much prep work you do and how careful you are about getting everything smooth. I doubt you'll be able to make the repair completely unnoticeable, but for $13 it might be worth a try.

If the shoes need to be recrafted, you might be able to get a cobbler to put on a new toe cap during the process. I'm not sure if they would be worth the expense of the repair as you can get a new pair of 2nds from shoebank for $230 right now, or you might be able to get a pair of once worn 3rds from dabondo1 for about $120 or so.
