Yes, I greatly prefer Bang & Olufsen. Even more overpriced but at least their stuff doesn't look like a humidifier.

Thats because 95% of the products on the market, any market, are usually crap. Think about it.

I agree re: the weak value proposition. Although sound is about what your ears like and is ultimately subjective, you can generally get a lot more for your money than you would with Bose. I would second the recommendation for the Etymotic's. You could also check these out which aren't bad for $15 with free shipping -- they normally retail for around $50

I use the Ety ER-6is and love em too. Great investment, I paid double the $75 you can have them for now and if I lost em I'd buy em again.

The Bose In-Ears are all bass and no quality. The tips also tend to stay in your ears when you pull them out (This is very scary sometimes). From extensive personal experience I'd recommend the Audio Technica ATH-CK7. They are made in Japan, extremely well made, and sound simply fantastic. The sound is somewhat similar to the ER6i but the CK7 has much better bass impact. Midrange sounds full and the treble is airy and a joy. The best price I've seen is at buy.com. The only time I'd recommend the ER6i over the CK7 is if you need drastic sound isolation. Otherwise it isn't even close.

I'm going to try a pair of Etymotic ER6is. I've heard too many good things about them not to give them a whirl.

I currently run a pair of Shure E2Cs. Not everybody likes these phones because their relatively flat response can make your music "lifeless" to some. If you have an EQ with your mp3 player or whatever, it can help. I got my E2Cs from Amazon for $40 and they're not really growing on me.

I'll also second the recommendation to stay away from Bose. Bose speakers typically exhibit cheap surrounds and substandard quality drivers, cones and speaker enclosures. Plus, the way they skew their marketing displays is reprehensible. "No highs? No lows? It must be Bose!"

I'll put in my recommendation for the Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 (the Pro variety). I was amazed at the response of these little cans that can. It's quite astounding what a pair of quality IEMs reveal, recording wise. Great mids/highs, respectable lows. They have an Enhanced Bass version, though the Pros are supposed to focus more on fidelity than "thump".
