I'd use a rag to apply. AE sells brushes for very reasonable money IMHO, so I'd grab some brushes at some point.

For bigger brushes, there are some very good 8" ones on eBay for $15-$20. I have one for each major color (Black, Brown, Color 8) and one for daily brushing before/after wearing... (don't judge me)

No judgement I do the same. I actually have a black, brown, burg, walnut brush + one for daily brushing before/after wearing. I'm not thrilled with them though, I'd like to get some better ones (I have Kiwis).

One of my favorite things now is being greeted by the aroma of leather and cedar when I open my closest doors. Sometimes I just want to step inside and close the doors behind me, and I don't even have a walk-in. Please tell me I'm not the only one.

This is the reason for waking up... isn't it?

I really like these racks; stackable or single layer works really well.

Seville Classics Resin-Wood Composite Utility Shoe Rack, 2-Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H1QWD6A/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_BGBPybATY0HJA

Well I didn't see these as a 2pack back when I got them but I can confirm these are excellent. I'm actually going to pick up another set (this time a 2pack) because... well I have a problem obviously. I don't like the wire kind, looks like stuff I'd use in the garage.

Where do you buy your shoe racks? I purchased from AE in the past, but they are manufactured poorly and wobble badly after four+ racks are stacked together.

I have some from the Container Store. They are two tier racks that are adjustable and stackable. I have two of them for four tiers total and it's very stable. It works great for shoes with heels, but those without heels like athletic shoes tend to slide off. The ones I have are slightly different than the ones in the picture as mine aren't adjustable in width and will hold 4 pairs of shoes on each tier plus one extra. So with 4 tiers I can get 18 pairs of shoes on them.

Keepers or no?

Is that a wrinkle or gouge? Are the other pics of some stray black polish that can be removed? I've seen far better seconds; if you paid full seconds price, I would return/exchange. If you got a smokin' deal on them, it's a tougher decision.

I decided last night to just order a set of firsts and send these back.

Did I mention that I strongly desire a pair of those deer skin gloves that are on clearance? Because I do. So buttery soft... And that cashmere lining... Ugh. The medium size fit me... well... like a glove.

They had those and some machine-stitched looking gloves in at least black at my local store. It took a lot of willpower to avoid purchasing them. Not sure if the walnut deer skin ones are actually hand-stitched, but they have that appearance. Dyyyy-no-mite!

I've got a pair of the deerskin glove in walnut and a pair of the deerskin 3 in 1 in dark brown in a box back home just waiting to be opened :)

The most recent family portrait:

Oxblood Cavanaugh
Cognac McTavish
Walnut Dalton
Merlot Mcallister
Tan Strandmok 2.0
The Harrison

I registered on this site under a year ago (May 2016), and feel like I have a good start. My wife feels like the collection is complete, of course! On average, I've paid less than $200 a pair ($196.50, to be exact), so I feel good about that. I've also picked up three belts along the way....

Thank you all for the advice and the enabling!
That's a solid rotation. Some more enabling - Don't forget to tell your wife about a potential pair of suede Dundees to add to the collection ;-)

From our favorite ebayer: Burg Shell Dalton. A little to wide in 8.5EEE but allows for some inserts that give me nice arch support. Don't think I can give these up. Under $200 btw. Guess I'm sending back the 9D Sturgis 2.0 2nds, unless another weasel is interested in them. I only paid $100 for them.

You read my mind. I need SOMETHING to spend profit-sharing money on.

I went crazy the last couple of months and bought way too many shoes from AE!

Unfortunately, I've sometimes received firsts that look like that. I hope your firsts turn out well.

Well I should worded a bit differently - I am going to wait until the firsts arrive (two-day shoprunner so hopefully Saturday or Monday) and then decide from there.

The Bourbon Dalton seconds were a no-go with greenish tone and lack of toe burnishing (my wallet is pleased). I think one pair of Daltons in dark chili is good enough for me.

Does this said "favorite seller" accept returns for wrong sizing? I thought I've seen on here before that he does but not really sure after reading his eBay policy.

Pretty sure he expects returns for any reason, for a certain amount of time (maybe 2 weeks or 30 days?) - but you must pay shipping. Keep in mind he will only refund purchase price, so you will be out the initial shipping plus whatever it costs you to return them to him.
