Ahhh I can't wait much longer (could be 4 more months) for my natty cxl Indy's. @BackInTheJox those look phenomenal. Fair warning, good luck reaching for any other pair after you wear those. They will treat you well

Thanks Rich. You ordered through Leffot, no?

Were they commando sole? I like the idea of commando or mini-lug, but for some reason prefer neo-cork's appearance for this boot.

How's the leather quality? Am I being too picky or expecting too much about for the quality? I got these during the bourbon sale. The shoes are carlyle, so the full quality of the leather is on full display.

Looks more like what one would expect from 2nds rather than 1st quality. One of the reasons I rarely buy firsts is because it's easier to accept the imperfections that aren't going to matter much after a year or two of use anyway. If you aren't happy with them, AE's return policy and customer service is top notch.

Assuming that those are firsts, I would call the quality "disappointing". I don't know if you will be happy long term with those. And as you say, for the Carlyle there is not a lot else going on.

@kammerer66 Click here post #68764 for a picture of my first time wearing them back on Christmas Day 2015. The color is a bit more accurate on those pictures.

Click here post #68774 if you want to find out how I found them what I paid for them.

Now THAT was a deal. And I love the chocolate Daltons.

From the early days of my AE collection. Bourbon Kennies (2nds via the shoebank) paired with gun metal 5-pocket stretch chinos. These got a few coats of bourbon, neutral, and black polish last night. My version of bourbon museum. Still fighting a slight tiger stripe on one shoe, but overall these have some great patina going on.

Those look fantastic....adding to my wishlist.

No, I do not believe they do. The only ones I know of are at theshoemart.com. You will need to create an account, then contact them and ask to be added to the seconds list. Once this is done PM me and I will tell you how to pull them up on their website. They do not make it intuitively easy. PULS, do as @gm928 suggested and visit the Alden store for measurement and fitting. I would really suggest you try to fit on multiple lasts as they fit very differently. The Barrie runs 1/2 large and the Aberdeen runs 1/2 small and there is everything in between. I suggest you take notes for future reference. There will be a test.

I totally agree that checking out the SF store (or DC/NYC - there are a few other Alden retailers that have some selection, but not much in LA that I know of). Aberdeen tends to run true-to-size but narrow (I wind up in an E in Aberdeen, Hampton and Leydon). I don't think I've heard of any of their shoes running smaller than Brannock (e.g. my size 12 requiring a 12.5 Alden).

WARNING: Non-AE content ahead.

I blame all you weasels for this. The craze over the Higgins Mill really got me interested. I'm a big fan of CXL, and have a pair of OSB beefroll loafers in both dark brown and natural CXL. I lucked out with the CXL lottery for my natural loafers, and they are amazing. So, after seeing a bunch of photos of both the brown and natural HM, I deliberated at length before deciding natural CXL would be for me.

The problem, though, is that as much as I try, I just can't seem to get into most plain toe boots in the "work boot" style (my Shaker Heights are a different story). I'm much more of a moc-toe workboot type of guy. Or, faux-moc-toe, as it were.

So in classic weasel fashion, I instead spent 2x the amount I would have on the HM to buy a pair of Alden (gasp) Indy boots in Natural CXL:

In summary, it's all your fault.

(But I love these boots)

I own and love the same boots. The natty CXL Indys are a patina changeling, and they've been awesome!

Many of you probably know this already, but if you add an item to your wishlist and the stock is low, it will tell you exactly how many are left in that size. Cool thing is that it could help you to prioritize your purchase of clearance model shoes if you want multiple models. You can focus on the ones with low stock first then chip away at the others.

Of course, this could work against you as well. I see that a couple I've been eyeing are down to a single item in stock.

Thanks for this, I had no idea. However now I'm panicking as I see the Mctavish I've had my eye on is down to one pair!

I really like that color with the laces combo you have there. I wish they offered more styles with that combo.

Sankyous. However, I bought the laces separate. The shoes came with like a gray or something like that. I don't even remember. I swapped em out almost immediately. I also have green and red and swap between the Strandmoks and my blue Neumoks (which wear the red ones right now).

Yes to Leffot and yes to commando sole. Slim chance I get them in March but I'm setting expectations for May so maybe I'll be surprised

Re: the "AE vs others" conversations lately. I think it is very hard to say if you haven't owned or handled/tried on these other brands. Also... give it time my peeps. Wasn't too long ago that many were convinced their J&M and CH were plenty sufficient for the amount spent. Many people started their "real shoe" addiction with AE and this forum - before moving on to other brands.

Yes. AE is the high-end grass of fine men's shoes.

C&J, Carmina, Enzo... probably blow.

St. Crispins, Lobb... that's the MTO stuff you get from a freelance compounding pharmacist in a Manhattan penthouse that specifically leverages your biochemistry.

Echoing what others have stated, these are definitely 2nds quality. The leather used is cut from less than optimal part of the animal and the fat rolls etc are quite visible and catch some of the burnishing drawing even more attention to them. The carlyle is sleek and I personally think this takes away from it. I'd return it.
