Whoa. I think this qualifies you as a next-level shoe nerd. Achievement unlocked!

Yes, it was about this point I realized I have a problem and there is no going back. At present all the shoes on it are AE. 2 Buday incoming and I will add them once they arrive. It also makes me quite aware of what shoes I got that I have not yet worn out of the house. I do not like admitting that there are at least 4. Nerd status next level will be an app for it. Perhaps a google doc...

Wait, not everyone keeps a spreadsheet to track their AEs? How do you keep track of the lasts, soles, colors, fit, lace length, etc?

@M2511 !

Well now that you guys brought it up, I do keep a spreadsheet for, not just shoes, but all things that are sized in order to keep things straight. However, I never thought to track usage. Until now...

I'd return them and use the money towards a nice pair of wholecuts :)

As I previously stated I really like the Carlyle but man would I be all over a pair of wholecuts from AE. Given that they don't have any I'm looking at C&J and Carmina for a pair.

These just arrived at my doorstep. I hadn't planned on any more shoes for a bit, but at $145 delivered to my door it would have been just wrong to say no.

Overcast, lousy day in the Chicago burbs. Ugly, nasty, corporate carpeting in the open concept office. At least I've got the olive Shannons to pick things up a bit. Not the best photo, but I'm really liking these more and more. I never expected an olive shoe to be terribly versatile with my wardrobe. But, I think it works with navy chinos, and I know it works with denim.

So glad I nabbed these off the AE eBay page for $119 with free shipping. Are they perfect? Nope, as the streaks on the left vamp will attest. But, they're a more rough leather, so I don't really give a hoot. If you're even remotely on the fence about these, and they have your size on eBay, jump on it. Jump. On. It.

When I got them, they were a little more tan than they look here. I hit them with some AE conditioner cleaner after a few wears a couple weeks ago, and it definitely darkened them, bringing out the olive more so than tan. It was a happy little accident, as I like the way they look now a lot better.

To answer your question, I got this from Neo1's style guide, where he mentioned that AE stated the last was a derivative of the 333, but was made to be much shorter. I'm not sure where he got that info from, but I thought it was pretty well established that the 1943 was based on the 333. Again, I've only tried one 1943 balmoral shoe just to see how they fit, and I found they felt similar to my Harrison (on the 333) when they were about the same length (not the same size). Both had less volume above the toes, but the instep felt similar (pretty good for me). I found that I could go a full size down from the 1943 in the 333 and the length would be about the same. Maybe this isn't an ideal comparison, so you might be right.

It's interesting to read how people experience shoes differently on here. I like to read how some people experience certain shoes as wide or long, while others don't. The last thing I want to do is mislead anyone here. No hard feelings.

FWIW, I took the same size in the 1943 last as the 333. Don't have info as to whether it derives from it. the 1943 shoe I tried on in the store was the Cornwallis. However, I have yet to purchase a 1943 shoe.

It takes me a few wearings to determine if a last will work for me in the long run. Some are tight when I first wear. Then gradually feel great. Others fit great initially, then after a few wears start rubbing my pinkie toe (hello bandaids!). Others have slight bowing and then gradually it goes away. Others, the bowing never goes away. It's all part of the fun in experimenting with the various lasts.

Wish I'd seen this earlier. I'm a 10E on the 65 last and ordered the same size for the First Ave...too wide and somewhat long. Ordered a pair of 10D hoping for a better fit (which arrives tomorrow), but seems I should be ordering a 9.5E?

I wouldn't panic. Not yet.

10 D might work. Give it a shot. If it feels too long, I would then try 9.5 E.

I think the 201 is about 2/16ths of an inch longer than the 65 (but others disagree with me).

I am very much in disagreement!!! Its about 1/8th on an inch!

Well you have me somewhat at a loss here. What have you been unable to say or speak to as a result of the speed of the page? Seems to me it is very easy to toss what you are thinking out there and people will reply. If we take away pictures of people wearing shoes, questions that are tangentially related what are we left looking at? Pictures of new releases? More questions of "do I keep it"? I guess I'm trying to understand what it is you would be ok talking about. Questions about fit but only in relation to AE? If I find myself many pages behind I just look at pictures till current and go from there. I don't think it is exclusionary. Several of us were new to the thread in 2015, or 2016, and I'm sure 2017 will be the same. I know I didn't have trouble jumping in there. Please do not take this as me attacking you, I would like to know in your opinion what topics would fall within a more on-topic scope for you?

Not seen as an attack at all.

What I mean by exclusionary is simply that I can't reasonably go through 10+ pages per day so I don't even try; I don't read the thread at all. If I miss a day or two, then I can be 30 pages behind. In this event, even scrolling through pages and looking only at images would take a substantial amount of time.

I do not mean to say that posters are trying to exclude others from the thread, only that the consequence for me is that I can't read/lurk or respond to posts; I'm excluded from participating due to the sheer volume of varied content, much of which is OT.

In terms of the vast amount of photos: I just don't see much value *for this thread* in viewing repeated photos of what shoes people decided to wear today (even the newest subscribers are likely to be familiar with what a walnut strand looks like). Even without these photos, the thread would easily be a couple of pages per day. I'm not suggesting that WAYWRN posts disappear, only that they might be better suited to a WAYWRN thread...perhaps even an AE or shoe-specific one.

I certainly understand that perspective and others may share it. I also know what a walnut strand looks like and this is a valid point. But for my part, I do obtain additional benefit from looking at the pictures. Some forum members change out laces to different color or apply their own burnishing that is different than stock. Some apply external eyelets or change the soles. These give a different perspective for me and make me reconsider some shoes that I initially did not find interesting. I also obtain benefit from seeking the color combinations of socks and slacks with shoes that help me envision new combinations from my own wardrobe that could work. Without the example, I may never have tried them. This may be some of the reasons other find it useful. To me, the thread does include "News, clothing, accessories, etc." Pictures of Washing a donkey falls under etc.
