MTM shirt - how does it fit?

It's my first MTM shirt (online) from Camiceria Olga. Personally I think that it fits pretty well, but I'd like to know some other opinions. What do you think? What should I improve on my next orders?

PS. Shoulder width is 46cm (actual width: 45cm) and as you can see, there's a little wrinkling of the fabric in the shoulder area.

I would appreciate hearing your thoughts!

I think it fits quite well for a first MTM. My first MTM (also from Olga) fits very similarly. You should perhaps send them these pictures and ask for suggestions. They should be able to help you.

First of all, make sure you wash it a couple of times before drawing any 'permanent' conclusions.

Secondly, as I said, I have a similarr fit in the shoulders and decided not to modify it in any way (i.e. not to modify my shoulder measurements in my second order). I think it's hard to achieve a better fit without it being too tight.

My sleeves were a tad longer so I changed my sleeve measurement by -1 cm. I would not do it in your case, unless you really want to.

What I changed the most were my measurements in the waist (by 2 cm) and in the hips (by 3 cm), as I lost a little bit of weight (but not much) and I found that the shirt had a little bit of extra fabric in the lower back area (just like in your case).

Overall, if you want a tighter fit in some areas, think about modifying your measurements for the second order, but by no more than 2-3 cm. If you feel adventurous, you can take 1 or even 2 cm off the shoulder measurement. Your chest measurement is perfect though.

I would switch to a maker that can at least do split yoke + single needle seams. The fit picture looks like for RTW; I don't think I would have known it was MTM if you hadn't told me.

I disagree about the split yoke, it's pure marketing for RTW (well, OK, unless it's for a striped shirt, in which case it does contribute to the aesthetics).

If you can get this kind of fit out of RTW - congrats, stay with it, there is no need to launch yourself into online MTM, where the result is always more uncertain than not.

Not so. Splitting the yoke allows the halves to be cut on the bias, to allow for more stretch where it's needed. So it's more functional and durable, aesthetics aside.

Yeah, I've read the same article advertising a particular brand/maker, but experience has taught me that most of the time it's completely irrelevant. If I wanted my shirt fabric to actually stretch, I would have picked polyamide over cotton...

You are right on the single needle though, particularly if you're American. I've noticed that Americans value single needle and they are probably right, as it does provide for a cleaner look, especially after a couple of washes. In Europe it is fairly uncommon though.

Keep in mind that Olga is actually cheaper than some quality RTW (starting from 55 EUR) and for those less fortunate (both financially and, so to say, anatomically) it's excellent value for money. You can hardly expect 55 EUR to buy you all those fancy details. As for fit, they can surely do better than what's on the picture, but it's already quite OK for a first online MTM shirt (where the cause of imperfections is as likely to be on the customer's side [it's not that easy to take accurate measurements] as on the maker's).
