Bummer, probably a good thing though for my sake. Do European retailers generally run just E?
Also a bit strange since I thought posting rare shell online was banned by Alden

Yes, I mostly see E width Aldens in EU. Not sure why. Is it because E width is the standard normal width from many European shoe brands? But that E width corresponds to Alden's D width, so it doesn't make sense. Do most European stores not know this (seems strange/ignorant), or do they want to sell wider shoes for some reason?

Thanks for the heads up, ordered my first pair of Alden's. Bristol's in E width.

Not sure if this has been covered before but here goes...

I have a pair of crepe sole Alden boots, which I love to death, but the crepe has now starting peeling off in places on the bottom and needs to be replaced completely. Is this something I can go to a normal cobbler for? I'm also wondering if I should just go the route of doing a leather sole instead? For reference, they're this style boot;

Thanks in advance fellas.

Guys check my signature, I am listing a Cigar Dover plain toe blucher. Cheers.

Those are very nice, if only they were a half size up I'd be all over them!

Thanks in advance fellas.

Would leave to see a picture of the peeling...I have the same boot but with Brass Hardware I guess through BB....It is my only crepe and I would send mine back to Alden or have a trusted cobbler put a lactae-hevea sole on it

Yea, here are some photos. Both of those are from the same boot (left).

Wow that is amazing...smart to stop when you did...Seems if the midsole is good then a cobbler could put a new crepe style sole on with minimal effort....while a leather sole would require a complete sole job.If you did decide to go RLH sole I would steer you away from their commando sole. RLH is also a much longer wearing sole than the Alden crepe.

I accidentally walked by the Alden Madison store last week... The Indy boots caught my eye as I passed by (coincidentally, it's been on my short list recently). I looked up and saw the Alden sign and almost laughed as I knew were this was headed...lol

They were so comfortable I couldn't take them off once I tried them on, so that was that for some 403's. I was close to grabbing the cordovan, but I couldn't pass up the classic styling for my first pair.

2 days later and I already ordered in the 404's to take on the rest of the winter.

I'll be on the lookout to find something in snuff suede later this year too.

One of my favorite shoe jokes....

There was a fire in the shoe factory, total tragedy 1000 soles were lost! LOL.

Also, the cordovan wingtip boots really blew me away. I have these AE Daltons that I had made in Oxblood with Dainite soles which I don't wear very often... They look great, but they just feel really red to me when I put them on.

I now see that what I was after was that look of shell. I guess I'll join that club soon enough.

As they say in Texas.....it's like a slippery creek bank, you fool around there long enough you'll slip in!
