Depending on how bad the tear is it might look a little ugly. Functionally is an easy fix tho.

So just to clarify, it appears that Horween's chamois and reverse chamois are both an oiled nubuck (top grain cowhide), and not genuine chamois (goat), is this correct?

And I read here that Nick said to use neatsfoot oil on it for the smooth chamois... I'm assuming the same oil can be used on reverse chamois?

The CXL longwings got the nod today. I am really starting to like this leather.

it is just a bad dream that @mdubs will wake up from soon. "Honey I had a nightmare...I was spending money on overpriced BRITISH shoes....ugh...please don't tell me I bought a British cook book too!"

I'm the same loafer size as @mdubs

I wouldn't underestimate our Lone Star friend here. He has the potential to mount an Alden mayoral run himself someday! Especially since our incumbent has been moonlighting in British politics (Edward green) recently.

Believe me, no one here wants to wear the same size as @mdubs or @MrDV ... you won't ever get the various makeups available in 10 Barrie/TB or 10.5 TTS! Unless of course @TexasTexter , you are planning a heist in San Diego!

Whiskey Saddle NST today.

Hellllllllllooooooooo Ravello

Sorry to dash anyone's hopes, but all four pairs fit great, and they're all staying firmly within my grasp.

Ha ha ha... with maybe three or four more scores like this past one @TexasTexter might have a run at DA. For now, @mdubs is the William Marcy Tweed of Tammany Hall!

A simple contribution to Whiskey Wednesday from an aspiring alderman...

Well worn whiskey shortwing bals (Tremont last) a la Alden DC, BB argyle socks, and RL linen pants. (it's 80* in TX)

Too wet for Whiskey Shell today

So a dilemma. I today got the 11.5D NST CXL boot. Fit is good but snug. This Barrie last is a bit of a challenge. Today's selection Grant Last Color 8 Indy. A bit tight in right foot around toes but I'm sure theyll break in.

Breaking in Bravisky indoors.

Cigar longwings glistening in the sun!

Alright, after much searching I was able to replace my mis-sized whiskey LHS thanks to @JR Magat , who was actually on a wait list with Alden DC for a pair. He sent them my way and I am now forever in debt to him for his help in making it happen.

I'll start it off with a comparison to my Ravello LWB I wore to work when they arrived. They have an ever so slight undertone of olive and I love the color, certainly not the Raviskey I have seen a few pairs posted looking like. Little bit of streaking on the vamp of the left shoe and some blemishes here and there, not as clean a pair as the old but they fit great and I love the shade!

Final shot comparing my old pair and new pair. You can see the bit of olive tone compared to the old pair.

Greetings,

I've been a lurker on these Alden threads for quite some time. I felt compelled to share my only pair of Aldens (so far) because it finally stopped raining in Los Angeles so I can wear them again.

Alden 563s // Brooks Brothers Navy Flannel Trousers // Star Socks from Express lol

I wanted the Brooks Brothers version because I like the foxing on the heel, but ended up buying these from eBay at a good price instead.

What are the member's preference towards the foxing? I'm also seeking a pair of Whiskey Shell SWB - where do I start? Thank you all.

Rare backside of my first shell cordovan Alden, the 975.

Ravello NST

New to the Alden game, so it shouldn't be surprising that the Indy boot is my first.

Natural CXL through S&A. Love the color/make-up. Was never a big fan of the commando sole on these so neocork is perfect for me.

Finally, I have a second pair of shoes
smile.gif
still NST, but in Natty CXL, TSM bootmakers edition

sighhhh so good.. one day again, one day

Mike were those from JCrew website? That must be the "good olde days"

@Burzan , congrats on your new Whiskey LHSes. Those are beautiful.

@TexasTexter , they were only offered in the JCrew Ludlow Shop in NYC.

@justsayno I think that those can be fixed, but I have never actually encountered that before.

@kwhitelaw Sorry for not including my normal KDubs spoiler on the Brassvellos... :)

So many great makeups today. I got to say that DonL won in overall style, but on a pure footwear basis, there are too many crazy good shoes in every color to even come close to judging.

Thanks for the funny comments guys, I am not going EG crazy, I am just exploring the brand as I have done with many others. I have long loved the Galway and the interesting mix of materials that it provides, however, their price point, particularly for Shell exceeds the amount that I personally prefer to invest into my shoes.

I do not know of the actual hide used and yes, I have heard Neatsfoot for Smooth and Reverse Chamois.

Still wondering speedhooks or no speedhooks. Which do you prefer and why?

I prefer all eyelets, mainly because my legs are skinny so I can get in and out of all eyelets boots easily. Usually only have to unlace the top eyelet pair, if even that, meaning it's faster for me than speed hooks. I also like the clean look of all eyelets.

Leffot Snuff Suede LWB purchased off B&S a few years ago. Just back from the local cobbler who replaced the blind eyelets with antique brass exposed eyelets. I also switched to brown laces for a more casual look.

Love the eyelets. I got a pair from J. Crew recently that has eyelets. I have to say that I love the snuff color in your pair, it's almost like copper. Did that happen over time?

I'm not sure. Maybe close to 1 cm?

I actually wanted brown eyelets like the JCrew version but the ones the cobbler had looked almost black. Depending on the lighting they've always look more copper/rust.
