I got a pair of Cigar shell 2nd hand recently with these dark spots on the vamps. Does anyone know what could have caused this, and if it's possible to remove it?

Your best bet is to send those back Alden for recrafting.

Or, strip them yourself and try to retrieve some of their original glory.

I actually think that with a bit of care, you could heavily reduce the amount of appear wear that those shoes have. I highly recommend my process that I have detailed here:

I am calling it the "Essential Three" and am trying to go after a few different styles of attire and what I think are the essential three Alden's that one would want if that is their personal style.
