There will be some lightening of the color due to the removal of the acrylic, but this process will definitely remove some of the inherent protection that the acrylic offers.

I was unaware that acrylic is even applied to my shell cordovan shoes. I personally don't see any any such layer would be needed.

I've had new boots that welt immediately upon exposure to a little rain, and I figure some acrylic would protect against that. :)

What I have noticed under bright light is run/dripping of the burgundy leather dye (as if dye was applied but excess dye dripped downward) and left some dripping marks on the #8 shell cordovans which is only visible when a bright spotlight is shined on the shoe. It makes me confident that Alden's color treatment on #8 shell is just their concoction of a purple/burgundy leather dye.

I'm also assuming that the reason they no longer install brass eyelets in #8 shell shoes is because this dye also paints/stains brass.

yes you are correct about the dye and the brass eyelets, as well as snuff/C8 saddles. that is no longer allowed for the same reason.

Yes. Also, due to the dark nature of Color 8, they can use shells with natural markings and the dye covers it. Not so with whisky, natural, ravello

Actually, I think these really are whiskey, not bourbon. I'm choosing to think of them as Brassisky. Or brisket. Yum.

Way to step up your game Pepper, those are superb. I believe that the official name for Brass + Whiskey was Brasskey.

I went to B Nelson a couple weeks ago to pick up some supplies since I was in the area. I was given VSC in Cordovan instead of Neutral. Anyone use the Cordovan colored cream? I just used it now and i thought it did a good job.

Dr. Pepper,

In all seriousness, enjoy your new Alden's. I can remember when I scored my first exotics, very exciting.

I hope all the guys here do not mind me cutting up in the thread. I am just having a good time.

@mdubs

Thanks.
