Manhattan restaurant rec. ?

I'm coming to Manhattan Jan. 20- 25 th and wanted any input members may have on favorites there. I know some places require quite a bit of notice for reservations and I'd like to make them now. I'll be staying near Times Square but can head anywhere. I'd prefer at least one Italian, Asian and gourmet restaurant plus anyhting else you think might be worthwhile. Thanks in advance.

In the "anything else" category, I LOVE Blue Ribbon. I just heard they opened a new one in Mid-town. I can't speak for that one, but I highly recommend the one in the Village (prince st. maybe) for Latenight Gourmet and many celeb chef sightings (blue ribbon restaurant, not sushi)

The 21st-25th is the 1st part of Winter Restaurant week so that you can go to many places for $35 that are normally $70.

And the Dessert Truck for a sweet !

cchen - congrats on all the good press for your business. I have yet to make my way to the truck to try something but NY mag seems to love it.

Interesting that a Columbia student planted its business in the heart of NYU territory...

+1 - I've never ever been satisfied with restaurant week menus. I'm sure some restaurants do a good job but most treat RW customers as second-class citizens

Thanks for the input. I have res. at Gotham, Bouley, Danube so far and will try Momofuku too.
I didn't know about restaurant week. Why not order from that menu?

For the best italian hit up Degrezia on 50 between 2 and 3... and if your a smoker I would VERY highly suggest going to Florios on Grand between mullberry and mott. Great simple old world Italian food and they allow smoking (near impossible to find in the city, because of the smoke nazis).

I would not go to two Bouley restaurants if I were you. Try other chefs - how about Eleven Madison Park instead?

Yah and Bouley and Danube being back to back makes it feel even less like you are trying something new. I'd probably pick Danube over Bouley.
