Cheapest "wearable" alternative to alden captoe/ wingtip boot?

I am a fan of the alden boots that fit the above styles, but am not really able to drop 400-$500 at the moment. What are some chaep alternatives that I may not have seen before?

I've looked at loake, grenson etc., My ideal price range (perhaps unachievable) is about $150.

Can you save up a little extra bit of money? Lower tier British made boots (like Loake) can be had for $200-300. You can also score big on ebay if you can watch it like a hawk - I've purchased several new/like new Alden boots for under $200 a pair (even shell cordovan boots). If you're earnest on the budget though, these Stacy Adams boots have been mentioned before: http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/95478.html On ebay, also look out for Allen Edmond's long discontinued "Bayfield" and "Andover" boots, which occasionally show up.

yea, 200-250 is reasonable.

I think the lowest price I found on loakes would've amounted to 200 shipped. i wanted to know if there were any cheaper options, though.

I picked up some Allen Edmonds Brantley, captoe oxford style, a while ago on ebay for $100.

Do you guys like the black or brown better for the Stacy Adams Madison?
I haven't seen the Madison specifically, but if they are like the other Stacy Adams stuff, I wouldn't spend any money on them.

There have been a few captoe/wingtip boots to come and go at good prices. BB had some on clearance a while back, we had the Asprey sale a couple of years ago, and GVH gets them in on ebay, along with sausages. If you keep your eye out you can get a good pair at a good price. Be sure to watch the Cool Shoes thread for the latest deals.

Ah, yes. I forgot about that model, which is a bit shorter than the others. I actually scored a pair off ebay not long ago too, but they ended up being a different size than what was stated in the auction.

I feel kind of "meh" on both. It depends on the rest of your wardrobe and what you'll be wearing them with I'd say.

I wanted some beater dressier boots and would be buying loakes if I didn't have a lot to buy this spring/summer season(starting college this year, gonna try out mtm shirts).

Stacy adams looks ok, but in a worn picture i just found after searching, the creases are ugly and the leather looks cheap.

IIRC, a few people around here have tried the Madison and said it was actually a lot better than usual Stacy Adams junk and that for they price they were not too bad. I wouldn't buy them myself but for $100 or less they are an alright boot.

+1. I refuse to endorse such a cheesy company, on principle!

I have the Madison in brown but have also had the black in the past. Now you can get it in blue and gray as well.

Other SA styles are The Cheez (tm) but the Madison is just the same last they have used for a century or more. Contemporary American dress shoes, like Aldens, are on the chunky side, but older styles like the Madison are thin and elegant. I think this shape is good for jeans with smaller measures at the ankle.

The Madison is also a very comfortable boot. SA may have moved production to India but I don't know whether this has affected the look or quality of the boot.

I was looking for something similar and ended up getting these. Grenson Sharps. ~$220 shipped from Pediwear (on sale and - VAT). Fairly happy with them - quality is pretty good for the price point.
