Ralph Lauren shirt sizing compared to european shirts

Are Ralph Lauren shirts made a number bigger ( i'm not talking about big and tall line ) than rest of the european shirts like: Zara, Massimo Dutti, Boggi Milano, U.S. Polo ASSN ?
Below, i've attached a comparison between two M shirts, the bottom green/white is RL Custom Fit and the one above it is a Massimo Dutti.
Compared to Zara or Boggi Milano, Massimo Dutti is a little bigger, but RL Custom Fit is way way bigger even compared to MD.
The RL is even bigger than an american Hollister shirt.

I only have two posibilies in my head:
- the RL shirt that i've bought is fake
- an S custom fit from RL is same size as an european M
