Preventing Yellowing Without Putting in Washer?

Can I prevent the neck of my shirts from turning yellow, without putting them in the washer? I tend to wear my shirts for short periods, and I don't do laundry too often - so, washing them every time they're worn and running a load with a single shirt in it is ridiculous.

Can I use my laundry detergent on the neck with warm water and wash it by hand?
Is there another / better way to do this?

If I do this, can I wear it again without running it through the washer/dryer (or will it be too wrinkled / etc)?
