I always wear a sport coat and a dress shirt, often a tie, even when visiting a farm, walking through the woods, or visiting a rocky beach--not real hiking but country walks in the UK and Italy. I wanted to see what recommendations you all have in terms of shoes that work well with such an outfit. Do I just need to wear rubber Wellingtons? I've been traipsing about in double monks or loafers to the detriment of the shoes and my health (slipped and fell on a grassy slope in England).

There are lots of nice country boots; depending on how rugged you want it to be look for boots with Vibram or commando soles, and either a veldtschoen or Norwegian welt.

I took a nice autumn walk today in corduroy trousers, cashmere sweater, leather jacket and crepe-soled chukkas. No harm to the boots, but I wasn't in any serious mud etc.

Advice - soften your approach, when in Rome do as the Romans do. Unless you are the Laird, squire such apparel simply says that I am better than you peasant! That resolves you shoe problem and so trainers are your choice.
