Vitamin C supplementation impairs training-induced adaptations in endurance performan

1 g of vitamin C per day impairs training induced adaptations in endurance performance. Not sure what to think about this, the benefits of Vitamin C probably still far outweigh the possible drawbacks.
Here's the abstract: http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/abstract/87/1/142?etoc

I am not sure how trustworthy this study is: 1) There are only 14 men of which 5 had vitamin C and 9 did not - This is a very small sample and questions the validity of the results. Any reasonable statistical test would come inconclusive. 2) The men were not taking ANY vitamin supplement before which could mean that the result is just an adverse effect created by the body that is not used to the vitamin C. Again, this is not the best experimental design.

They want payment to view the full article. Are the results (and the p-value) reported in the abstract from the animal study, the human study, or a combination of the two?
