Shoe Fit Question (AE vs. Ferragamo Tramezza and Lavorazione Originale)

Good afternoon everybody,

I have been a long-time lurker of this forum and have learned a lot from it. However, I decided that it was time to join and get involved in this community :).

I have only recently started to overhaul my wardrobe (I work in finance) as I start to learn more and more about quality and what fits my style as someone who is outgoing, but, still wants to keep things safe for a business professional environment.

Currently, I own two pairs of AEs (the Sixth Avenue last from Nordstrom rack in Dark Hickory Brown and the Clifton in Walnut/Tan). So far, I have been more than pleased with these purchases. Normally, I wear a size 10 1/2 in men's sneakers and in the black Calvin Klein slip ons from Macy's that I have had for the longest time. I bought the Sixth Avenues in that size, extra-wide (EEE). The 10s in all honesty fit better, but I was paying more attention to the size I normally wear instead of considering the fact that lace-up dress shoes do not fit the same as sneakers. It was too late to return the Sixth Avenues, as I only started noticing the extra space more when the shoe was being broken into. Luckily, the Cliftons in 10D seem to fit me perfectly.

Eventually, I was thinking of nabbing a good pair of Ferragamos from eBay, since that is something that most people here who have bought the have done with success (good, quality line at a lower price). I would be getting them in black. lace-up, and only wear them for the office, professional functions, and nice dinners, I have seen some good deals on shoes from both the Tramezza and Lavorazione Originale lines. I am not sure how they fit compared to AEs. I have read that Ferragamos are half-a-size, and sometimes even a full-size larger than what one may normally wear (i.e. if you wear a 10, buy a 9) and are on the more narrower side. Out of curiosity, I went into my local Nordstrom and tried some of the shoes on. a 10 loafer is too big for me. Surprisingly, the 9EE fits me. When I tried on the lace-ups, it also seemed like the size 10EE was too big for me. However, the sales associate told me that the fit fluctuated depending on the model and line of the shoe. As a result, some specific Ferragamo shoes may be closer to being "true to size" like my Allen Edmonds Cliftons in 10D. Besides getting confused  by the discrepancy in sizing, I was able to tell that the Ferragamos are definitely narrower than the AEs.

I was wondering if anybody could give me some input from personal experience? Is there a general rule of thumb for Ferragamos when comparing their sizing and fit to AEs, or is it really model and line based? More specifically, I was thinking about the Candido Tramezza Lace-Up Wing tip or the Primo for Lavorazione Originale. Would it be better to go with a 9, 9.5, or 10 with these lace-up shoes? Is also staying on the wider side for width a good idea?

Any input would be appreciated! Thank you!

If there is anyone on the forum that can answer your question, they'll be in this thread http://www.styleforum.net/t/518090/allen-edmonds-appreciation-thread-2016-news-pictures-sizing-accessories-clothing-etc.  I'd recommend asking in there....best of luck.

Allen-Edmonds typically makes their shoes on different lasts, so what may be a good fit with one last may not be a good fit with another. Some A-E lasts are just not a good fit on my feet, period. (No knock against A-E, I've got 43 pairs!)

I can't say much about Ferragamo lasts. I have three pairs of Ferragamo shoes. All are a good fit in my normal size.
