Deconstructed Z Zegna suit

As some of you know, I have started cutting open suit jackets from different brands at various price-points to see how they are constructed. The last one I did was a Jos. A. Bank and I just did this Z Zegna:

On deck is a Tom Ford that I picked up from @dahl5yankees, which I am excited about.

The shoulder pieces look pre-cut, likely from Rovagnati or Cervotessile.

Not surprised at the amount of fusing.

Definitely pre-cut, no idea of the pedigree though.

Interesting. A cool grand for (marginally) nicer fabric and better styling seems like a lot - but how much of Z Zegna is sold at full retail?

There are only 3 or 4 other places Zegna might have acquired them, but I know for a fact they work with both so I would imagine they'd use the same supplier. Keep in mind they are wildly overcharging for this Calvin Klein jacket + nicer fabric, so they can absorb the extra cost.

Even for Z Zegna? They could be using some cheaper option too I would think.

It's been some time since I worked for a major retailer, but the general goal for non-basics used to be 65% full price. The constant sales nowadays make me think that # has probably dropped. They have also putting the squeeze on the brands (particularly up-and-coming) by making them take back the leftovers at the end of the season, so that would make it easier for them to drop to a lower ratio of full price to sale. They also used to mark up 250% from wholesale, so that Z Zegna suit maybe cost them $600.
