This would be my first eBay suit.  I primarily have Zegna OTR suits to date, along with some miscellaneous MTM.

Attolini: By my calculation I'd need about an inch added to the sleeves, two inches taken out of the waist, and two inches added to the length of the pants.  The listing suggests there is sufficient fabric for each of those alterations (thought the sleeves may be close and will likely need another button).

PS: Again an inch to sleeves and about two inches added to pant length.

I stumbled across this post, which made good points against hoping too hard for eBay gold: http://www.styleforum.net/t/140387/the-styleforum-working-hierarchical-suit-quality-list-sfwhsql/975#post_6647611.  But perhaps I've got to throw some of my own money away before I convince myself.

Any thoughts on the listings welcome.  The Attolini has been re-listed numerous times; the PS appears new to eBay.

Adding length to the sleeves may or may not be possible.  I would be very wary about this.  You haven't seen the suit in person, and it would take a trip to the alterations tailor to be sure of whether than adjustment is even possible.

That particular suit was made for Domenico Vacca (http://www.domenicovacca.com/), an NYC clothier who is under some legal scrutiny now, if that makes a difference to you.  His style has always been a bit flashy, in keeping with the jetsetter image he like to portray.

My takeaway would be to pass on the suits, and look for something that will not require adding to sleeve lengths.  Taking or letting out the jacket and pants are routine, but lengthening sleeves, less so, and frankly, much more expensive and often not doable.

I bought someone's MTM Maxwell's suit from a thrift store and had similar alterations done on it. It's a *beautiful* suit and I get compliments but there is a problem.

There are lines where the sleeves were lengthened. They are most visible on the underside of the wrist which is rarely exposed, but detectable in daylight even on the top of the wrist. I've tried to steam them away, taken it to the dry cleaners, even done a tiny touch-up with a water color marker but they're still there.

As a result I feel self-conscious when I wear it which defeats the entire purpose. I don't feel too bad, the alterations were $50 and the suit was almost free, it was worth the experiment.

That said, no *way* would I blow $500 on a suit where the sleeves needed to be lengthened.

As a side note, the previous owners name was stitched into mine, he is a reporter for the Toronto Star. I'm considering sending him a pic of me wearing his suit with my face blocked for giggles :)
