Bali Tailor has me scared

I don't want to bog you down in details. I'm getting cold feet with a suit and waistcoat order from a tailor in Bali. Can you guys confirm for me that this looks like a bad jacket and waistcoat or not? They have quoted me $350 AUD for the suit, pants and waistcoat but this just doesn't look like a well made jacket or waistcoat to me. What do you think? [/IMG]

The waistcoat leaves a lot to be desired, but it's hard to tell on the jacket. To be honest, that is probably what I would expect for that amount of money. A good suits length of fabric alone will cost you more than that.

Are your expectations correct for us$270? Its not even a 3 piece suit but at least 2 different fabrics being used which in theory further increases the cost.

It's not a great finish but that isnt what you expect when you are paying less than what the fabric alone would cost you from a middle of the range wool mill.

I know you get lots of people that come back from their holiday from India, Bali etc and say how they got an amazing handmade bespoke suit for us$250 and all done in 2 days but have you ever looked at them? Even the display models in the tailors in India were poor quality and you'd expect the ones made for customers to at best to be equal to the displays and probably below the standard.

You might be right. Lack of experience and bad advice might have me expecting too much. A tailor in Melbourne actually suggested it to me. Living in a regional town in NSW but with access or exposure to the styles and range available online has probably made me attempt to achieve the unachievable. A second generation menswear shop in my town said "we don't have anything fancy like that" when I asked if he had any peak lapel suits. He said that they tend not to stock "trendy" suits and rather things that will stay in style. I don't know when he thought the leak lapel was invented but I digress.

At this stage it will be a matter of hoping that what arrives in the post is acceptable or getting married in an off the rack Tarocash suit, which might be a better yet far from ideal option. I am lucky to have a pretty stock standard body type so off the rack stuff fits okay.
