Where to find suit fabric information? On label?

Hi, I noticed when people on this forum talk about a specific suit, they usually know the fabric info, like which mill made the fabric. The quality of suit fabric is important for a suit make using various fabric right? However, I cannot find such info on my samuelsohn suits, only on the label I can find whether it is 120s or 150s. So I went to Harry Rosen, still cannot find the fabric info on suits labels. Is everyone on this forum expert who know the fabric when they touch the suit?

You can't tell by touching the fabrics. A lot of custom (MTM or bespoke) will sew the label from the mill on the inside of the jacket. Either that, or they select the fabric from a book while visiting the tailor or source it directly from the mill (or 3rd party) themselves.

Never seen a mill label sown into any MTM or bespoke suit, maybe a USA thing?

Many people on this forum will be buying MTM or bespoke, the former you may be able to get information on the fabric or not depending on the setup and for bespoke you certainly should be able to know if you want to. Rarely, at least in the UK, will there be anything in the suit to identify details of the fabric but some do put in either a customer or suit ID which can be cross referenced to the retailors records to say what fabric was ordered.

If you are looking at OTR then its very possible that the retailor doesnt know, even if they purchase direct from the manufacturer (of the finished garment). In some cases they may even buy "the same fabric" from multiple sources and may not track which source is used in which garment.

Naples, Japan, etc.....even Suit Supply does it.

Have jackets from 3 tailors from Naples and none have done it.

SuitSupply is so close to OTR its hard to include it in the list. Each time I've talked to them about their materials and looked at them for cheap knock about suits they've not been able to even tell you basic things like what the weight of the fabric is and even had to look at the label to know if one pair of trousers were wool or cotton (I said wool, they said it was cotten, I was right). They do put a mill name in their clothes but on the basis they can tell you nothing more than whats on their site it doesnt really lead you to have an indepth understanding of the materials used.

most RTW suits will not name the mill unless it is something they think they can charge more for
Loro piana or Zegna
there are plenty of mills that you have never heard of that produce high quality fabric.

they might label the count 120s or140s etc.
mfg do not need to label the country of origin of the fabric
