Fishtail vs. regular trousers w/ suspenders

Thread Starter

I'm looking to have a suit made and plan to have the trousers cut to be worn with suspenders. I'm aware trousers drape better with suspenders when worn at or closer to the natural waist, and this is what I'm aiming for. My question is, is there an appreciable difference in comfort and/or drape between regular-back traditional-rise trousers and fishtail-back trousers?

There should be no difference in the comfort and a slight difference in the drape. Some individuals who do not opt for the suspender saddle do so because they want belt loops and always wear a belt.

There is no difference in your level of comfort or drape, but fishtail back pants have two distinct practical advantages. The higher back makes sure no shirt shows if you're wearing a vest and sitting down, and it also allows V-back suspenders to be used. The comfort and drape is wholly contained in how the pants are cut overall, and isn't related whatsoever to the presence or absence of a small detail on the back of the pants.

A fishtail back is preferable but does mean that you cannot wear the trousers without braces.
