Thanks to everyone for an interesting start to this thread. This is how it turned out.

Specific advice taken from @TM79 (darker tie) and @Claghorn (striped shirt).

fwiw i think the first pic is the best, stick with the robust primary colors in the silk. it all works off of the jacket. i'd stick with the blue shirt but maybe your typical ocbd. pink ocbd could work too.

if you maybe had a 'simpler' ps with the same colors the idea would read more clearly i think.

EDIT: whoops too late.

Not too late in the sense that having the information here for future reference is always good. Thanks for your thoughts in any case.

Too late for your dinner but I agree that the darker green tie is better. Even lighter green also probably would have worked. If you hadn't had a darker green knit the original green might have worked with the striped shirt. By making the shirt lighter you could have given the green an impression of being darker.

Since you were thinking about it for dinner I was also going to suggest white shirt and black knit. Although that might have suggested going with different trews.

The striped shirt and navy knit would also have worked I suspect. I'm less sold on a white shirt and navy knit with that jacket. White with a lighter blue that would be lower contrast might be interesting.

That's a whole slew of things I would not have considered. Excellent points.

I'll play, good idea for a thread. To be worn with light grey summer weight wool trousers and brown loafers.

Is that a suit or a sport coat, and in what context will you be wearing this?

SC, light weight hopsack. Casual day at the office

Initial thoughts are that the PS stands out too much. Everything here is fairly muted and conservative except for the PS, which goes "BAM!" whilst everything else more or less fizzles. My instinct would be to change either the tie to be more contrasting, or the PS to be less so. I'd lean toward changing the PS in this case. You could still go with a pattern on it, but perhaps a casual check in a color scheme that echoes the tie. Also, with out for wearing a tie that slim with lapels that wide. What trews?

Fwiw, I think the green works much better than any burgundy tone because it's a cold color. Add burgundy to the jacket already in the same color family and you get a washed-out look, the eye has nothing to hold on to. With green, navy or black, that's not the case.

Sorry to say that, but I think the tie should not be worn, period.

Yes, I would agree. I didn't like the look of the burgundy when I saw it.

This is the first potential outing of the new Kent Wang MTM suit. It is a dark green gabardine paired with a white Brooks Brothers OCBD shirt, a silk knit tie, and a silk cream PS that I think might be KW. This is for another dinner out with the wife.

Should I wear this?

Fabric in better light...

This is one of those things where I really need to see you wearing it to say whether I like it. I mean that shade of green gabardine suit?... Who knows.
