First post here, have been reading quite a bit but this time I need specific advice.
I wanted to get a bespoke dinner suit (tuxedo) with a tailor I had already used for business attire. My preference is for a jacket with grosgrain shawl lapels as I like the lapels which go with my slim body and the the grosgrain which has a more interesting texture in my opinion and which I would combine with grosgrain bow tie and bows on pumps.
My tailor said he would not go with grosgrain on the lapels as then he would have to make a seam or suture in the back of the shawl collar (at the neck) in order to align the grosgrain pattern symmetrically on both lapels (both sides of the shawl).
Can anyone with experience with grosgrain shawls comment on this? Are there other ways to tailor this? Is it even that bad to have a seam there?
Thank you! Any help appreciated!
