I need perspective....
Recently paid $3000 USD for a MTM sport coat in hopsack, unlined.
Transaction & measurements were conducted locally at a small haberdashery in Tokyo; the piece was cut/constructed in Italy then shipped back; local shop does finishing touches/adjustments if needed. The finished piece is exquisite and fit is beyond my expectation for what I could get from MTM. Zero complaints. In fact, I'd love to immediately commission a dozen more but the 3k price tag still has my head spinning. I want to but simply can't--but even if I could, would it make sense to?
I'm trying to understand: Where does $3000USD fall in terms of what you get?
This thread is for buyers like me to get perspective. Is this Savile Row territory? Keep in mind, this was MTM and not a Bespoke piece. My gut feeling is that this is pricey for only a MTM sport coat. And that a full bespoke suit from a decent tailor could be had in HONG KONG (or Vietnam or whereever) for the price that I paid for a single MTM sport coat here. Or possibly could have purchased 2-3 MTM (or bespoke) sport coats for the price I paid here for only one and end with similar results (a well fitting & constructed jacket).
