I am using the eye gel right now and the results are almost miraculous. I have terrible dark circles under my eyes (benecio del toro style) and in just over a month this La Prairie has worked miracles.

I'm about to start getting more serious about daily face care... would anyone recommend a facial to 'wipe the slate clean', so to speak, or just go right into product use?

I have Darphin Whitenining, which is rather nice, but it's apparently unavailable now.

How does Shiseido fare? La Mer is rather ineffective.

I have never used Shiseido, just that Asian women are a big fan.

I've used a lot of Shiseido products from various lines and quite like what I've tried, but overall I find skin products to be the hardest thing possible to recommend to others. What works for one person's skin doesn't work for others. I don't have particularly sensitive/dry/troublesome skin, so probably I'm not the best one to tell the subtle differences in some of the products (for example, the Chanel Sublimage facial cream I used and that was about 5x's as expensive as the Shiseido didn't really seem ALL that different to me or give my face any added benefits, that I could tell). Of course, they ARE very different, but again, it's just that perhaps my face isn't that good of a test for it.

But, overall, on both a results and value decision, I like the Shiseido really well. From the Shiseido Mens line, I have a pack of a Daily Revitalizer, a Hydrating Tonic, a Toning Lotion, an eye serum, and a facial scrub, priced altogether slightly less than what Socal quoted the Dior, but that I liked very much.

Truth right there.

Personally, I've been using the Dior Homme Dermo facial cleanser for the past two months, and it has been hands down the best cleanser I've used, and I've tried a lot of different ones.

I was really surprised too, at first I thought that the entire system was going to be overpriced and ineffective, but one of the guys at Dior told me to give it a try, and that it wasn't that pricey afterall (a little under $40 for cleanser that I've been using nonstop, and there's still more than half left. I would've spent $40 with the other brands I've been using, since I would've ran out at least once by now).

I'm definitely going to check out the other products soon.

bigbadbuff-

i would suggest the baxter of california line as a line to look at and start with; it's basic, not too pricey, and generally works well for all guys with all skin types (www.baxterofcalifornia.com or www.menessentials.com)

also, as mentioned here before, www.menessentials.com is an on-line store that sells product lines that are men's only lines and there is a lot of variety offered by the products depending upon skin type etc etc (there is a skin type guide and it has product recommendations based on your skin type)

but skin care is very hit and miss
i have not yet found one single line that covers all bases for me and mix and match from higher end lines like "ren" and "skeen" to more affordable line like "menscience", "brave soldier", "baxter", "korres" and "urth"

edit: ren is pretty well the only line that is totally free of parabens, dye, silicones, TEA, DEA, etc etc; korres is getting better, eliminating parabens, sulfates etc. if that matters to you

I checked the Dior homme products last night, and price wise, I prefer Lancome over them, as I dont want to spend $80 on something and find out it doesnt work, whn I can spend $60 on something I know does work. However, they did have Shiseido and it is a little cheaper than Lancome, so this, I am willing to try. Has anyone tried the new Clinique Redness range? Its awfully chilly out here at the moment with the baltic winds, and would like to know how effective someone thinks of that?

I have used revive for the past 6 months and I am really happy with it. I would recommend their product.
