Does this not seem like something immigration policy reform would seek to address? If we're having trouble integrating a certain type of person, should we not consider both how to better integrate these people, and also whether we should be more selective in attempting to integrate them?

Can we deport Newt Gingrich?

This is an important point but first, integration is a two-way street and sometimes (oftentimes, Find Finn would say) there is reluctance by the immigrants to put in any effort. But France, for example, also has West African Christians, Portuguese, and Roma living in poverty and poorly-integrated communities.

The second thing is that, while it may not have been the case here, many of these "unintegrated" are actually 2nd/rd/4th gen and came during the period of mass importation of cheap labor from N African countries (or during the wars, ex France slaughtering Algerians, something for which it has yet to apologize). So they are far more French than "other", many I've met don't understand even basic Arabic, and are treated as Arabs in France and French in Arab countries. I'm not sure what can be said about selectivity in this case?

That we shouldn't repeat France's mistake going forward?

The problem isn't letting immigrants and refugees in it's treating them like shit when they're there.

This eerily reminds me of many Hispanics. They have an accent but don't speak Spanish (other than a few words and food names.) Many live in homogeneous neighborhoods, are viewed as "Other" by mainstream society, and view their selves that way too...but they're several generations deep Americans.

I was talking about France/Europe. In the case of the US, it is a far more selective process and immigration has been very tightly controlled so that the vast majority have no issues integrating because they come here for education and employment opportunties, i.e. not state welfare. The analogous example in the case of the US would be Mex/SAmer/CAmer immigrants, often brought in for cheap labor (or sneaking in illegally though even that has decreased considerably). But outside of CE, by and far the majority of Americans I have interacted with have never presented a hostile attitude that creates a sense of not belonging, and I have not seen the levels of disenfranchisement among 2nd/3rd gen here.

I need to learn that expression, as it is very applicable in daily life in Europe. As it seems most of the idiots around here seem to neglect this fact.

The migrants in Europe have had since the 70's to assimilate into to society, but we still see a complete lack of will from people who migrated here in the 80's. The social services here spend enormous amounts of resource on even basic things like getting people to take care of their own children and not just letting their 5 y.o. roam the streets until midnight 365 days a year. There is a reason why ME/africans immigrants do worse in school, crime stats and have a lower employment rates and its them.

I mentioned this in another thread the other day we have a yearly deficit of $2.25 billion from the money spend on integration and the amount of money the migrants make in wages. This has been going on since at least the Balkan war. I've heard people call each other sellouts for getting an education and young kids below 10y.o. saying they were going to ditch school as they are going to be on welfare like their parents.

Integration my ass. I work with the guy whose parents are from Afghanistan. He looks middle eastern, speaks Farsi and Indian, his mother tongue is Dutch and he works as clinical scientist. Who integrated him? Noone, but himself. He had all the opportunities regular Dutch person has in Holland or Belgium.

I am sick and tired of rehearsed bullshit about colonial past. These former colonies would have been in depths of misery if not for Westerners giving them an iota of culture and modernity.
No One is holding Africans or MEsterners back except their own religion and tribal culture.

I don't think that there has been a global conspiracy to "import" immigrants and refugees with the plan of treating them like shit once they have arrived. Clearly that has been the end result for some people but far from the case for the majority. Some people are losers who have failed at most aspects of life, this guy most likely fits into such a category.

I had read he that he had grenades and other arms inside of the truck, how can this be if he was a lone wolf. I can't imagine those are easy to find, although I really wouldn't know.

Sucks that he felt that killing a bunch of people was what was needed to justify his end but typically a guy like that couldn't just fuck off like a decent person.

If anyone has a better idea that's worth repeating, I'd like to hear it. I'm afraid people are going to be having this same conversation down the road when things are as bad in the U.S. as they are in parts of Europe.

Some French police/investigators are providing new details on the Bataclan attack in Paris, including the torture of some of the hostages. It's being contested by some.

Police witnesses in Parliament said they vomited when they saw the disfigured bodies.

Wahhabist killers apparently gouged out eyes, castatrated victims, and shoved their testicles in their mouths. They may also have disembowelled some poor souls. Women were stabbed in the genitals – and all the torture was, victims told police, filmed by Daesh or Islamic state for propaganda. As such, medics did not release the bodies of torture victims to the families, investigators said. Prosecutors claimed this was “a rumour” on the grounds that sharp knives were not found at the scene. They also claimed maybe shrapnel had caused the injuries.

He had plastic guns and an inactive grenade. His only real weapon was a 7.65mm pistol. There is no indication he was linked to terror groups, had a manifesto, made any demands etc. but new information may surface so...

Death toll 84 and will possibly rise, this includes 10 kids and teenagers.

note: The guy wasn't 4th gen or whatever, he was from Tunisia. I'm sure Suited will cream his pants when he learns that.

Thanks, I hadn't heard much further.

Coup in Turkey will add some drama to the old M.E. and Europe.
