St Cloud isn't exactly a hotbed of Somali immigrants.  If this had been an incident at one of the malls in the Twin Cities, I'd buy it because the Somali population lives in Minneapolis on the West Bank.

"St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis identified that officer as Jason Falconer during a press conference Sunday.
A short time earlier, St. Cloud Somali-American community members identified the deceased suspect as Dahir Adan."

I've discussed the Black Hawk Down battle with at least 9 different Somali cab drivers in Toronto over many years. + further general regional history w a couple Iranians that hated the Shah and one that still loved him (lol). Kinda fun to get the realdeal on historical events from folks that were there.

You're not getting the "real deal" from cab drivers, Thomas Friedman.

me or that tyrannical imposter eek.gif

if you were to check out the scene in LA you'd find a huge pro-shah population with TV networks set up to disparage muslims, communists, and liberals, and proclaiming his son as the rightful heir to the throne (a role the guy has stated over and over that he has no interest in). there's also a restaurant in northern virginia which has excellent food but is filled with portraiture of the shah and his family, makes take-out the only viable option because who wants to eat as they glare down at you in their full opulence.

Yeah I read that From Beirut to Jerusalem when I was younger. Great contextual history of the region.

Tho he was there. They were there. Ya either were or you weren't. I certainly wasn't. Granted: he's a great writer and they drive cabs. Still like Woodstock tho.

I suppose total submission to a cult of personality can be kinda euphoric or something. Certainly this has it's historical antecedents. Same goes re: a concept for any religious extremist.

Federal and local law enforcement were hunting an "armed and dangerous" 28-year-old Afghan-born man in connection with Saturday's bombing in New York City, even as raids and detentions in the metropolitan area raised the specter of a terror cell behind a series of successful and attempted attacks over the weekend.

Ahmad Khan Rahami, a naturalized U.S. citizen, is wanted for questioning regarding the Saturday night blast in New York's Chelsea neighborhood that injured 29 people.

Rahami is now in custody after a shootout with police.

And the stabber has been identified as part of the local Somali community I see.

It's a miracle nobody was killed with multiple attacks. This couldn't come at a worse time for Hillary, nor could the circumstances have been worse. No opportunity to blame an AR-15. Not even a handgun. A knife and a pressure cooker. Both suspects are foreign born, imported problems from areas that I think can be sold as questionable places to be taking immigrants from.
